Taipei is the capital of Taiwan and officially comes under the Republic of China. The city is the economic, political, cultural and educational center of Taiwan region and also a major hub in East Asia. It has been rated as an Alpha City giving it the status of a global city. Before the influx of Han Chinese immigrants, the region was inhabited by Ketagalan plains aborigines. The Han Chinese settle lost the region to Japan in 1895 and was ruled by them for many years. People from around the world come to this city for its lively street food scene, night markets, and beautiful monuments.

Taoyuan International Airport is an international airport serving Taipei and north Taiwan. It is the largest and busiest airport in Taiwan. It was ranked as the best airport for its size in Asia-Pacific Region by Airports Council International. Weekly there are around 31 direct flights to Taipei from Beijing. What to See
Taipei is a thriving city that has a lot to offer to its visitors. Walk on Dhanshi’s old street which is known for its market and street food but you should visit the old customs house and the promenade when you are here. Enjoy hot springs in Wulai village which is located outside the city. There are many host spring spas where you can book rooms and enjoy the hot spring in privacy. Enjoy the tea gardens in Maokong and taste the locally grown teas while enjoying the city views from the tea rooms. Learn about the interesting history of Taiwan at National Taiwan Museum. Here you can learn about the aboriginals, locals, the plants, wildlife and culture of Taiwan in one place. If you love hiking the trek up Yangmingshan National Park it has steaming fumaroles that remind visitors that this park was once an active volcano. Make sure that you visit the iconic Longshan Temple which was rebuilt after it was bombed in World War II. It is one of the most visited temples in the region. Your visit to Taipei will be incomplete without going up to Taipei 101 which used to fast elevator once upon a time.
Tip: It can rain anytime in the city so make sure that you carry an umbrella or a poncho when you head out.
Eat & Stay
Taipei has a very good food culture and has the best that local cuisine has to offer. For a good restaurant offering food in a budget or cheap street food head to Daan District. Wanhua District has excellent gourmet restaurants in the city. Xinyi District has excellent night clubs and pubs to enjoy a good nightlife.
Hotels near Taipei Main Station and Ximending are excellent and ideal for anyone looking for budget hotel and backpacker hostels. Xinyi District has the most luxurious resorts and high-end hotels in the city.
Taipei is an excellent location for some retail therapy. Head to Shilin Night Market, Wen-Fu Pu or Ximending where you will get everything from clothing to accessories. Zhongzheng District has good shopping malls if you want to buy branded stuff.
