The hotel is situated centrally at the top of Gran Canaria and as such has staggering beautiful panoramas from both its rooms and public areas. It is in a unique and unforgettable position close to a large number of well sign posted walks (most will need either a car or taxi to access) The hotel has been recently renovated and modernised to a high standard. Our superior room was in the original building, was spotlessly clean, well furnished and quiet. The view from its very large balcony was stunning) Be prepared for rapid weather variations as cloud blows in and out, temperatures can drop dramatically and it can be both sunny and hot and foggy and cold on the same day! Service in the restaurant can be erratic although the food quality is very good. The Spa is quite basic and, we felt, somewhat over priced. This hotel is ‘an experience’ and amongst the most memorable, for good reasons, we have ever stayed in.

From the moment we arrived and had our first meal we knew this hotel was very nice indeed . So starting with the food the selection was truly amazing at every mealtime and even in the snack . Evening meals we had roasts , fish , tiger prawns , smoked salmon and even caviar WOW ! Huge salad bar and choices of rice pastas and potatoes and veg . If you don’t want formal lunch the snack bar does help yourself burgers sandwiches pizza (to die for ) pasta hotdogs and the usual chips nuggets and fish fingers . Still a big salad bar and gorgeous homemade soup . Great selection in every venue I challenge anyone to be hungry . Drinks plentiful and lager much better than normal Spanish fayre . The rooms are big with very comfy beds and walk in showers they are extremely clean and the maid service is exceptional . The pool is huge and very clean with plentiful sun beds and the adult only spa area is really nice with lots more sun beds this is really neat the snack bar for ease of getting drinks . The entertainment was the usual singer or circus act ok if you like that sort of thing we went out after dinner every night as not our cup of tea . All in all though this hotel is amazing and I’m booking again for next year

We are staying in Axelbeach now for the second year in a row. It offers us everything we could want for a hotel: big and clean rooms (basically a small appartment), a beautiful and well kept garden with both shade and sun, a sizeable big pool (with always enough sunbeds for everyone), a very good breakfast (full English but with healthy options with fresh fruits and fibres, too) and all that in the middle of the day/ nightlife of Playa: 5 minutes walk from the Yumbo. One gets very good value for money here. To top this all off - the staff is very friendly and helpfull - with a personal touch. They remembered us from last year and we were welcomed back as old friends. Thank you for your warm welcome Kevin - it is much appreciated! Hotel is located near the airport of Las Palmas about 20 minutes in the most inner area of the island. I must say gentleness of the owner who waited for me tonight because the flight and the car rental delivery have caused a little delay. small room with terrace, no lift is available. simple but good breakfast. stayed for one night

Fabulous hotel, cannot recommend it highly enough. Great location, just one block from santa Catalina park, over looking the port and only a few minutes walk to the beach. Rooms are stunning and very well appointed, lovely big showers, plenty of hanging space etc. The only slight improvement that could be made is the air conditioning, it's not the greatest and my particular room was particularly warm but reception did give me an extra card so I could leave the electricity on when I left the room and this helped a lot, it took about 24 hours but eventually the temperature came down sufficiently. The roof top bar has some stunning views and is a great place to relax with the drink, the bar staff are great, helpful and friendly an make a pretty good mojito too. The roof top solarium on the other side of the roof could do with a little improvement in terms of furniture but the view is still great and the little pool is a great place to cool your feet after a busy day sight seeing. Breakfast is of very good quality, small selection of hot items but lots of fruit, pastries, cereals, juices etc etc, again the staff here are all friendly and helpful, as they are on reception too. This is a city center hotel and there is no view from many of the windows, mine overlooked a neighbouring apartment block (only a few feet away across a slim courtyard) some look out into an internal courtyard, but the staff, the location and the size and quality of the rooms definitely make up for this and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great base to explore this beautiful island.
