Our family of 8 booked 3 nights at Meininger Amsterdam from 31st May to 3rd June thru ***********. Upon check-in we had to pay for the 3 nights in advance. That is when the we saw signs that choosing this hotel was a bad decision. First, we were told that the main elevators were broken and we would have to use the other elevators which is at the far end of the property. We had to lug our large suitcases up a small flight of stairs and walk quite a distance just to get to the elevators. We passed big groups of young travellers chilling around, there was even a few dudes lying on the floor near the elevator, enjoying some snacks while listening to music. Typical dorm/hostel ambience?? Definitely not the kind of a**osphere i was expecting. Our 6-person room was poorly cleaned - there were some kind of beads all over the floor, and no towels. We tried to get some clean towels from the nearby cleaning dude, and got yelled at. I'm not sure is this is the international a**osphere that they are advertising. Feels more like a prison a**osphere to me. This is a through and through backpackers hostel and if you're looking for a decent stay, take my advice and stay elsewhere. Luckily i found a much more decent place - Mercure hotel just across the road for less! I checked with Meininger customer service (reception was useless) that i would be able to get my refund for the 2 nights i will not be staying (see attached pics) and hurriedly move to the other hotel. Guess what? When i didn't receive news on my refund and checked with them again, they said it was a communication error on their part and i am not going to get a refund for the nights i did not stay!
