I have stayed in Orange chain hotels before and the service is usually excellent but since the Covid pandemic things have changed.
My Chinese girlfriend checked-in before me, with the booking made by me. I arrived later and checked-in after a 25-30 minute wait for the staff to confirm if ok with the local police depar**ent, as I had a new passport that did not have my China entry stamp.
After finishing up "check-in" and when I was told "ok" I may go up to my room, I asked for a room key. Front desk staff told me I did need not a room as my gf had stated "not necessary" when they asked if the second guest would need a room key.
I explained that I had paid for and booked the room, and front desk staff responded that they would require that the first guest come down to reception to confirm it is ok.
I looked in my phone and located my transaction receipt and check-in page, and front desk still insisted that "..because the first guest said only one is needed, he/she will need to come down to reception to approve a second key."
After frustration and exchange with multiple staff members, my gf came down and I was given a room key.
Unbelievable prejudice, blatant discrimination and xenophobia.
I suggest you look elsewhere for a comfortable stay in Beijing!
