About ten years ago, I stayed here for one night and had a fantastic experience, leaving me with a great impression. After so many years, I returned with high expectations, only to be met with significant disappointment. The entire hotel, along with its service team, showed an undeniable sense of fatigue. It's understandable that facilities age over time, but the basic room amenities were poorly maintained. The hairdryer and showerhead were both out of order, and the attention to detail in maintenance was completely lacking. The complimentary breakfast also felt neglected; with limited variety and mediocre quality, it was a stark contrast to what it used to be. The frequency of the park's shuttle bus had also slowed down considerably. Chatting with the driver, I learned that customer numbers had dropped significantly since the pandemic. Walking into the ancient town area, I could also feel the quietness. Many shops along the street were closed, a far cry from its former bustling atmosphere. What was once a meticulously maintained and thoughtfully designed water town, brimming with antique charm, now had cluttered and unsightly杂物 piled everywhere, and its refined ambiance had vanished. The contrast between then and now is striking. If you're coming specifically for its former glory, you'll likely be quite disappointed.

Nice tea set and tea leaves provided. Location good. Nearby is a heated pool to soak your tired feet after all the walking. Breakfast included was good. One can sit in an outdoor section (2 tables only) and enjoy the view. It's jointly managed by the hotel opposite and breakfast was served there. Cats like to hang around the door entrance. Only down-side was there's nowhere to hang one's clothes or towel. There are pegs beside the bathroom basin but it was also adjacent to the toilet bowl and there's a risk the clothes or towel may drop and land beside the toilet bowl.

On the morning of our check-in, the hotel called to inform us that due to the typhoon, they were being used as a temporary shelter, so our booking was moved to a Deluxe Family Room at Gubei Zhiguang. The room at Gubei Zhiguang was a bit smaller and the facilities felt a bit dated, but the breakfast was good, which somewhat made up for it. What I found unacceptable was the 25 CNY charge for the hotel parking. Of course, this isn't the hotel's fault, but rather an issue with the overall scenic area management. By the way, a shoutout to the Chinese restaurant opposite Gubei Zhiguang – it was excellent.

Wonderful experience stay in ancient vibes house. I really like stay here, room very clean. Staff so friendly. I had dinner there and the portion very generous. If you want to stay in Gubei water town please consider to stay here because the house very nice.

A perfect stay! The environment was clean and tidy, the service was attentive and thoughtful, the bed was incredibly comfortable, and the soundproofing was excellent. The facilities are new, and the value for money is absolutely amazing. This is my top choice for travel, five-star recommendation!

The architectural style of the hotel's courtyard (siheyuan) was a highlight I had to discover myself, rather than it being prominently advertised by the hotel. This was a bit of a shame, but I truly loved the traditional Beijing siheyuan feel. 3. The hotel is located in the most secluded corner of the Water Town area, offering a quiet and serene environment, which I really liked. 4. Although the hotel is quite a distance from the park entrance and the bustling Sun and Moon Island, the electric shuttle service provided by the park is excellent. This made it very convenient to return to the hotel to rest or to depart from the hotel to explore various scenic spots. 5. The breakfast was simple but offered a good variety, including vegetables and meat, both Chinese and Western options, three types of fruit, and American coffee from a bean-to-cup machine. Food items were replenished continuously, and the dining environment was comfortable and cozy. 6. The hotel is situated right next to the entrance of Simatai Great Wall, the park's main attraction, making it very convenient to return to the hotel after an evening tour. 7. It would be even better if hotel guests received more discounts for visiting attractions or dining at restaurants, especially if there were greater specials for dining at the hotel itself. This would definitely encourage more in-house guests to dine there. 8. A special thank you to the lady at the front desk for her incredibly thoughtful and detailed service on our check-out day. She helped us with our luggage and arranged for the shuttle to take us to the first parking lot. My wife and I were very touched by her warm service.

I wholeheartedly recommend the Gubei Water Town William Hotel, it's truly the best resort hotel experience I've ever had! The hotel's location is superb, right in the heart of the water town, within walking distance to Water Street and Sun-Moon Island Plaza. Most room types feature floor-to-ceiling windows and balconies, offering direct views of the Simatai Great Wall as soon as you open them. In the evening, the water town's night lights are dazzling, and the courtyard pool is perfect for stunning photos. The ambiance is absolutely top-notch. The stay was incredibly comfortable. The room was spacious and clean, elegantly decorated, and the bedding was soft and skin-friendly, making for a wonderfully peaceful rest. The dining was also impeccable. Whether it was breakfast or the restaurant dishes, the flavors were rich and varied, ingredients were fresh, and both Chinese and Western options were available. I was very satisfied with the food. What truly touched me and deserves special praise is the service – thoughtful and warm, making me feel cared for throughout my stay. This time, I was traveling with my child, who unfortunately twisted their ankle. In a panic, I contacted the hotel. The staff immediately arranged a vehicle, and the hotel manager personally accompanied us, escorting us all the way to the medical office for examination and care. They were incredibly responsible and attentive, instantly putting me at ease. Upon checking out the next day, the hotel even thoughtfully packed breakfast for us, paying attention to every little detail. From check-in to check-out, the service was meticulous, considerate, warm, and responsible. I stayed comfortably, ate with peace of mind, and the service was beyond reproach. I genuinely recommend this hotel to families and anyone looking for a resort stay. I will definitely choose this place again when I visit Gubei Water Town next time!

I will definitely prioritize this hotel again on my next visit and highly recommend it to everyone.

From the higher levels, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the entire city, and there is also a beautiful pagoda located behind the property which adds to the charm. The service was generally good, and language barriers were not an issue at all, as the staff were very helpful and willing to assist whenever needed. However, future guests should be prepared for the access to the hotel. If you do not want to get too tired, it is advisable to travel with light luggage, as you will need to climb a significant number of steps from the main road up to the reception area. This is because the property is built within what feels like a temple-like compound, so reaching the rooms requires quite a bit of walking uphill. A unique stay with great views and helpful staff, but best suited for those comfortable with a bit of climbing and walking. For the room, I stayed in the Scenic Mountain-Style Double Bed Room and was quite satisfied. The room is spacious with a slightly old-style atmosphere, but still well equipped with modern amenities. The bathroom water system and overall cleanliness were excellent. One thing to note is the warning about insects entering the room if windows are left open for too long, which makes sense given the hillside location. Overall, a comfortable and pleasant stay in a unique mountain setting.

Overall, I'm very satisfied. The room itself actually exceeded my expectations. I had read reviews mentioning bugs, but in reality, it was a very clean and tidy wooden environment (I had imagined it might have gaps everywhere allowing bugs in). The furniture was really well-maintained, not at all outdated. The service was top-notch, nothing to complain about. Hiking, enjoying the breeze in the mountains, admiring the flowers, listening to the birdsong – it was all very pleasant. The 'attractions' really aren't much, just natural scenery. The scenic area has named some rocks, but they look so unlike their names that I could barely match any of them. This one I found myself is much better; I've named it 'Orangutan Rock.' Pretty similar, right? It's located near the Jade Rabbit rock on the 18 Pangu Ancient Road, looking across at the opposite mountain. ⸝⸝ ᷇࿀ ᷆⸝⸝
