Manor House Hotel Holy Island

The most unfriendly staff I've ever encountered. We arrived from one of the Billy shiels tours at 3:45 on Sunday, and asked what time they were serving food until. We were told 4pm, and so therefore qued (the que was tiny, around 3 people deep) - and food was a must at 6.5 months pregnant! A female member of staff seemed to mutter something under her breath to the other staff member. At this point someone in the que asked what was said and they proceed to say - no more food... at 3:50. No apologies, no closing the que after those who had been waiting and told could order, no offer of just cold food etc. Nothing. At this point we now could not even try anywhere else on the island as everywhere had stopped serving by 4pm. Our trip included an 81 year old woman and myself heavily pregnant and like I say, no common courtesy or customer service was shown at all. Even just a friendlier way of communicating would have gone a long way!!! Will never return. Avoid!! There are much friendlier places on the island, that deserve your custom so much more. Try the resteraunt near by, which is a 3 minute walk away.

My husband and I booked to stay in this hotel for one night (19th -20th June) We arrived at the hotel at 10 am, my husband entered the hotel and spoke with a member of staff who was at the reception desk, regarding checking in. At no point was there any advice given regarding the importance of booking a table for dinner. We toured the island, returning back to the hotel at approximately 15:00. We took a seat in the bar and had a drink. The bar staff were aware that we were in the bar and were guests of the hotel. The bar became very busy with afternoon session customers ordering food. From our position we could watch the bar staff, it was clear that they were not coping with the demand and it was chaos. We decided it would be wise to book a table for dinner, we were bluntly informed that all the tables were fully booked, that we could not eat in the hotel. We are experienced travellers, we are shocked that as guests in the hotel, there were no tables reserved for us. Very disappointed.

Easy parking, Friendliest staff we have come across for a long time. Very comfortable rooms and lounge areas with good range of drinks, super views and great service. Informative information which really helped. Really enjoyed it many thanks.

amazing place to stay. we really enjoyed our stay at the Manor.Our room was amazing ,we splashed out on a Deluxe Club and what a room. Very comfortable and the views from both windows was fantastic. The breakfast was excellent. We had dinner in the bar and the fish and chips was one of the best I've eaten. We were looked after by Jess who basically did everything. It was relatively quiet so we had a great time.AT 3.45 pm all the cars and buses departed and the only people were either staying or local.This changed the atmosphere and everyone relaxed.A few locals came into the bar and we had a lovely chat and a beer. They are all grateful for people who stay on the island as it supports the local economy. It really was an experience. Oh and Hi to Caitlan

Went for lunch on a wet Tuesday. The staff were incredibly kind and welcoming. Went above and beyond expectations. The sandwiches were first rate and great chips too. Highly recommend. Dog friendly . Nice choice of drinks. Best crab sandwich of the many I tried during our trip to Northumberland.

We ate here twice while staying in the Island this year. The general atmosphere is welcoming, the staff are very pleasant and friendly. We sampled a few mains and starters from the evening menu. The fish and chips and the steak and chips and the burger were quite traditional, but filling and very well prepared, while the steamed mussels and braised belly pork starters were a more creative. The sea bass fillets were great value. Two decent sized pieces of fish, well prepared and served on samphire and crushed potatoes. The main courses are filling, so we weren’t able to sample and of the traditional desserts on the menu. It’s a difficult place to get a walk in so booking well ahead is a good idea.

We loved our stay at the Manor House in early May. The inn was very clean, quaint, and quiet! The staff was very friendly and accommodating - we immediately felt like we were staying with new friends. Shout out to Rich and Ashley and the attentive blond woman with whom I had a lengthy discussion on the difference between "fudge" and "chocolate" - ha! Food was good - plenty of variety and because I am gluten free, it was nice to have many options. The garden area was lovely for sitting in the afternoon to people watch, chat, read, and drink a pint. Our only dislike was the mattress. Ooof. Our room could have used a new one. We didn't feel it necessary to say anything at the time because it was unlikely that they would have been able to conjure up a different one due to the remote location.

This is our second time staying at this hotel - Holy Island is small and hotel availability is limited. We were delighted to discover the hotel rooms have been upgraded since our last stay and had a boutique slant with hardwood floors. The views from room 10 are spectacular but there was rather an odd adornment of giant golden balls, which frankly just took up room in a nice, large space. It was an odd addition on a remote island and must’ve been a huge ‘ball’ ache to manoeuvre into the 2nd floor room with an awkward staircase, I couldn’t fathom the reason why? The most disappointing part of our stay was the lack of any hot water to shower or bathe. We raised it with reception, well the one member of staff who was in attendance and she was of little help. Her response at the time and on check out was ‘I’ve let the management know, but haven’t had a response’. We were charged full price of £189 for the evening which isn’t good enough when basic facilities like hot water are not available, I asked on checkout if someone could contact us to discuss as to the reasons why and she responded ‘you’d be better off telephoning us’ I’m still waiting a response 5 days later. There are large areas of damp and where leaks have occurred which look unsightly and the glass panel at the reception door is shattered which doesn’t give a great impression at check in. We were slightly early due to tide crossings and us as well as others were told no checking in until 2 pm as he still needs to hoover. We spent time in the bar on the evening, but the fire remained unlit and it was a very chilly evening. The range of drinks and food are good, but the welcome at the Crown and Anchor opposite is far nicer and much warmer. It had a much cosier atmosphere, as does the Ship where we opted to dine. Breakfast on checkout day was a little shambolick - a toaster to make your own toast with supermarket bread, instant coffee and a boiler, a bowl containing an apple and a banana and cereal. The hot offering was better but the sausages were cold which is a shame as they were really nice quality. Poached eggs were excellent, but only one indictable wrapped butter left for a toasted muffin. There was one member of staff present and we had to wait until she moved furniture for us as she said she was expecting a table of 6 who shouted up that they’d taken two separate tables and hadn’t thought to say. It’s disappointing as we love Holy Islsnd, but I don’t think I would return. Overall overpriced and doesn’t follow through on their offering.

Booked meal prior to visit, on arrival was asked if we would like to sit in restaurant with castle view instead of bar which we did. Staff members very friendly and helpful, food fresh and well cooked. No rushing us in and out, allowed to wait until ready to order pudding, then no rushing us out once finished
