I had two stays at PGH, either side of an overnight hike to Namobuddha. It’s housed in a very old building, renovated and converted by the family. Location-wise, it couldn’t be better. The square is a wonderful place to people watch, and is only a few minutes’ walk to Durbar Square. My room was comfortable, although I’m not a fan of small bathrooms with a shower which gets everything wet! I had a couple of issues, but these were dealt with quickly and without a fuss, so this wasn’t a problem for me. Breakfasts were very good - something different served up each morning. Similarly, evening meals in the restaurant were excellent. Better quality than anywhere else I found. One of the owners is Malaysian, and cooks a mean laksa, which was an unexpected treat. The only things I could fault were down to the building’s age - crazy small door thresholds, unusual stairs where you sometimes had to limbo to get up/down, and the noise from the street outside. The windows and shutters kept out the rain and light, but not the noise. And the street was noisy pretty much all night (2-3.30am was quiet!) All part of the charm!
