I'm often wary of small boutique hotels as being heavy handed with their style, and light on service. This is not one of those hotels - in fact I can't remember a time I've been more impressed or felt more attended to than at Kensington Place. First it's in a gorgeous bit of Cape Town that is quiet and green nestled at the base of Table Mountain, but is so very close to the action of Kloof St, the city bowl and over Kloof Nek the Eastern Seaboard that you couldn't ask for a better combo. Second - it's got what I'd call an almost LA-like design style - perfectly manicured - the gardens, the cleverly considered public spaces, the pool area - with muted understatement punctuated with dashes of African flair and expression. A very comfortable place to be - with a lovely big room with wonderful views and right up to date with amenities like USB chargers next to the bed. But the lingering impression was the wonderfully friendly service - such a warm welcome, followed by super-attentive things - I needed a plaster and they provided, I needed a birthday card and they provided; the breakfast you can have almost any time of day, and it's good, they welcome you to use the hotel as your home, and it felt like they really meant it. I can't think of a better boutique hotel experience I've had, ever. So they're doing something very right. Wish we were staying longer, and would definitely come back.
