Arrived early hours of the morning around 2am, after travelling all day, taxi dropped us at the closed part of the hotel, it then took us another hour to actually find reception, so automatically it was a bad start, got to reception and was greeted by a lovely guy who got us checked in prompt and helped us to our room. Room was clean and spacious, we got a main hotel room, lovely view from balcony. I originally asked for a low level room but upon arrival none was available, but I was left a lovely letter explaining the situation so I stayed in the room given as not to give the hotel the bother of moving us. But the letter was a very personal touch. Breakfast is traditional turkish style breakfast, with a choice of eggs after, very nice breakfast with delicious lemon juice. Food from the cafe is also beautiful and very reasonably priced. Pool was quiet and relaxing, very easy to find a sunbed, guy who sits at the pool will go get you drinks, food etc Leaving early morning to come home and the hotel kindly made us sandwiches for our travels Thank you Topset for a lovely relaxing stay :)

Under normal circumstances, we would probably not have stayed at the Dome Hotel, as the reviews that we had seen were not brilliant but, as we were on an escorted tour (Jules Verne's Classic Kyrenia Tour), we did not have much of a choice of accommodation and knew that we would be out on trips most days, which meant that it wouldn’t matter too much if the hotel wasn’t perfect. After having spent a week there, we can say that there are plenty of positive things about this hotel, but we can also see why it might get some poor reviews too. Before our arrival, we were in email contact with the Dome to ask a couple of questions and received prompt and helpful responses. We had advised them that it was our wedding anniversary during our stay and were delighted to find out when we arrived that they had upgraded us from a standard room to a two room junior suite (Room 346). The bedroom on its own was a good size anyway, but having the extra lounge room was very useful as the bedroom storage space was a little restricted. The bathroom was also a good size and had a jacuzzi bath, which was a nice touch, but it was a bit awkward to get in and out of, plus it was difficult to use the shower without getting water everywhere, as the shower screens did not meet in the middle. The bathroom fixtures and fittings were rather tatty and dated, as was the room overall, with dark brown being the main colour present. We really did not like the fact that the room’s doors did not have proper secure locks on them, just a push button on the inside, plus we only had one key, which made things a bit awkward if we were going out separately. We were pleased to have an in-room safe, although it seemed odd that it wasn’t actually attached to anything (so it would have been perfectly possible for someone to steal the entire thing). We didn’t have anything from the mini-bar, but there was at least enough spare room for us to keep our own stuff in there. We really liked having 2 balconies, particularly since we had an unrestricted sea view from both of them. The air conditioning worked well, plus we were able to get a nice breeze through the rooms via the balcony doors. We stayed at the Dome on a half-board basis, which meant that we had breakfast and dinner in the main restaurant each day. The food at both meals was of reasonable quality, but not very exciting or varied over the week. We were very surprised to see that the leftover soup from dinner was offered at breakfast the next morning! The puddings at dinner were very good though and we appreciated being able to order fresh omelettes at breakfast. We also liked the fact that bottled water was included with dinner at no extra cost. As the weather was warm during our stay, we chose to eat on the terrace each morning and night, but our experience was often marred by the other guests chain-smoking their way through each mealtime. We have recently returned from two weeks staying at Altinkaya. Altinkaya is somewhat of a conundrum as the grounds are beautifully maintained and it has a pleasant swimming pool. We stayed in the hotel on the first floor at the back of the building. The room was quiet and had a view of the mountains , although somewhat obscured by the tall trees that edge along the hotels boundary . The room was basic with a tiny fridge which was barely cold, the air conditioning worked well. There was a kettle and two mugs that had been hidden away in a cupboard , complimentary tea and coffee were not provided nor any drinking glasses, although upon asking the bar man happily gave us two wine glasses . Neither the glasses or mugs were replenished with fresh ones during our stay. The bathroom consisted of a narrow bath with an over the bath shower which was generally cold or luke warm. The cleaning and replacing of towels and bedding was very hit and miss and I had to ask for our bathroom to be cleaned properly after it not having been cleaned for several days. The pool was pleasant but unfortunately the mattresses on the loungers were grubby and some of the parasols filthy and appeared to be smeared with mud. The food in the restaurant was fresh but repetitive and basic. Staffing seemed thin on the ground but they were pleasant and happy to help. Information on trips and activities in the reception area is out of date , we asked about Horse riding and were told this had not resumed following covid , yet the poster remained during the entirety of our stay. The communal areas in the hotel looked very nice and we sat inside the bar ( which I think is used during the cooler months ) whilst there was a heavy storm one evening. The lounge area has a good library of books and there is a large new restaurant. In conclusion Altinkaya has the potential to be a great hotel it just needs some attention to detail.

After 2 long years away we were glad to be back at Sammys hotel. All the staff had changed but the new staff were lovely, especially Tara, Ali, Jony, Dior, Aziz. Our room lady and the young man who worked alongside her, kept our room spotless, with clean towels and clean bedding everyday. There had been a few new changes since we were last there but all for the good. See you later in the year

We read some bad reviews before booking and still decided to try this hotel. And we were absolutely pleased with everything. The management obviously made some improvements since 2017. Well done. Decent breakfast with a wide choice of food and a coffee machine. Many restaurants nearby, on the main road. Friendly staff (especially the Iranian woman at the reception) After we left Park Palace hotel, we also stayed in other 3 places and we reckon it was the best hotel on our holiday in Cyprus. We recommend it to anyone, who is looking for a budget hotel room in Kyrenia.
