Beautiful hotel & restaurant in a perfect location looking out over the bay. The owner and staff were absolutely excellent, very friendly and hospitable to weary travellers. I had to leave at 5am thanks to the ferry company letting me down and having to re-book a stupidly early ferry on to the Orkney Isles, so I couldn't check out as normal and arranged with the owner to leave the room key at the unmanned reception desk before normal operating hours.

Complaint No.1 ...be careful when you book a table for dinner. I booked a table for four for dinner or at least I thought I had. When booking a table online, I now know you are making a request to reserve a table. The hotel needs to respond to the request. In my case, the hotel got my request but did not respond. In other words it was not picked up and I thought I had a reservation. When the hotel searched they could see my request but it was overlooked. Complaint No. 2.... be careful when you call the hotel to confirm your reservation. I called the hotel twice on the day of my reservation, first to check the time and secondly to say we would be arriving later and would that be ok. I gave the hotel my name and it was a party of four. I was told my reservation was for 18.30. I called later and again gave my name and was told yes, it would be fine if we arrived at 19.00. Complaint No. 3....being told that it was our fault for not following up on our Reservation Request. Notwithstanding the hotel had overlooked my request. Complaint No. 4.... after a delay, a table was set out in the bar for us....no lovely loch view, but hey ho, as long as the food was good. Dinner is expensive and therefore it was reasonable to expect a good standard, it wasn't, it was ok. Perhaps if we had been in a better frame of mind we may have enjoyed it more. Complaint No. 5.....do not put a service charge of 12.5% (about £36) when clearly we had not had the best of experiences. The hotel was quick to take it off when I complained. Observation No. 1.....do not call women ”girls” and ”my dear”. Observation No. 2......revise your claim about whiskies in stock....the current one is wrong.

The staff were absolutely phenomenal and all so welcoming. Top rate service all the way. Food was ok for dinner and breakfast. The room was really spacious and clean. Only thing that was maybe a downside was the mattress was very old.
