Everything is ok except its location. Although you can see the sea from your balcony, you also can see the cemetery near to this apartment from your room window. If you don't mind, this apartment is suitable for the family

Reviews for Guesthouse Kiljan are all over the place, so it was with some trepidation that we arrived there. It’s an older house and not much to look at from the outside but it turned out to be a most pleasant surprise. Renovations inside include our pleasantly decorated room and shared bathroom located just a few steps away. Everything is clean and comfortable, the owners gracious and helpful. Coffee, tea and cookies are available for guests. Meals are available in the in-house restaurant. We had delicious bowls of soup pm and breakfast (included with the room) the following morning - the best breakfast we’ve had while traveling around Iceland!

This small traditional hotel is located in the town of Blonduos just off route 1. A large river meets the sea at the end of a finger of land so the hotel has a lovely position. We opted for a standard room which was ok-not huge but with comfy beds and a decent shower room. I wasn’t expecting a sea view (costs more) but there was only a tiny corner window which made the room a bit claustrophobic. We ate dinner on our 1 night stay which we enjoyed-only a couple of options. Breakfast had all the usual offerings. Note there isn’t a lift if you can’t manage heavy luggage but the staff are v willing to assist.

One night stay to remember. We had read the reviews so knew that it was a considerable drive/trek along a gravel road . We arrived late evening and the weather wasn’t the best . However, the view that we woke up to made it all worthwhile ( see photos). The sunrise over the sea/mountains was spectacular. It was low season ( end of October) so we had the place to ourselves - beds were comfortable and we had the upstairs bathroom and kitchen to ourselves . Host was helpful and friendly. We stayed one night in a ground floor room overlooking the parking lot. This was convenient for suitcases but we had absolutely no view. It was cold and rainy and it would have been nice for some kind of water view with comfortable chairs available for all guests. The room was very basic. The family sharing the kitchen on the other side of our bedroom wall made a tremendous amount of noise but thankfully they quieted down by the time we went to bed. We had a huge problem with the shower which immediately flooded the bathroom and part of the sleeping area. We had no equipment to clear out the water ourselves and called the number that came with the room instructions. After about 15 minutes a woman arrived in boots and with the necessaries to take care of the flood. She said she found tons of hair in the drain, as if someone had a haircut. She also said that we were ”lucky” this happened today because the week before she was someplace else. We were left wondering what we would have done if she hadn't been available as the bathroom was unusable. We were glad we were only staying one night.
