My partner and I went to Sans Souci for a week for some down time and it exceeded our expectations. We had a sea view room that was truly exquisite and the beach was literally on our doorstep. The staff were amazing and could not do enough for us. Claudio at reception was so friendly and helpful. The food was plentiful tasty and always fresh. Our waiter Lorenzo was very attentive with a great sense of humour, fluent in English and always made sure we felt looked after. The staff during dinner service were so welcoming and always willing to accommodate our needs. This hotel is not only good value for money but made our holiday experience better than we could have imagined. The hotel provided bicycles free of charge so we could cycle at our own leisure. We also had a day in the spa that was relaxing and a nice touch. Came back feeling thoroughly refreshed. We would highly recommend this hotel and can’t wait to return. This hotel should be called the Imperiale Napoleanic Hotel. It has grandiose ambitions towards 4 stars whilst delivering a very disappointing experience to its guests. Despite the presence of antique items in the reception area, the reality is far less grand, much more in keeping with the uncomfortable plastic thrones on the terrace. Firstly..the room. Shabby, uncomfortable mattress and flat pillows, smelly bathroom with no working extraction system, no complimentary toiletries other than a tiny bar of soap and a shower cap. The fridge is off and empty, no tea & coffee and no drinking glasses. Now to the restaurant..oh dear !!. The decor is totally over the top, overlit to the point of being blinding, and horror of horrors, each table is decorated with a piece of coral in a bowl. Breakfast is supposed to be a buffet. It is not. A table separates the guests from the food trays and one must queue to point to the waiter to indicate what you would like him to place on your plate. My husband was shouted at on the first morning for wrongly picking up a large plate. He angered the waiter again when on another morning, being in a rush and finding no waiters in the restaurant he started to serve himself. What a nerve !!!! I only attended breakfast once. Far too stressful and the offerings are meagre. eg: the only fruits available were prunes and plums which the server handed to you in the tiniest of bowls. The management is not concerned with environmental issues, as the water and watered down juices are served in plastic cups. Why not a glass? The first course at dinner was also supposed to be a buffet. Again, one had to stand back and point to unidentified dishes and be served by the waiter. The next two pre- ordered courses were mostly inedible, followed by a no choice dessert. The staff in the hotel were not particularly friendly or helpful. I hated the atmosphere in the restaurant and if only other places were open nearby, would have eaten out. One evening we met some interesting fellow guests and were finishing off our drinks in the lounge area. At around 11.15 pm a member of management, who I nicknamed Lurkio, passed by a couple of times with a glowering expression and proceeded to turn lights off. There is NO way, in any stretch of the imagination, that this hotel deserves those 4 stars and should be re-assessed, in fairness to other hotels like the nearby Sans Souci which thoroughly deserves them. Don't even think about staying in this one. The only good thing about it is the proximity to the beach and there are plenty of hotels that benefit from that.

I am writing this review while my family and I are still in the hotel, just to make sure I will not forget anything. So....just to begin with....this could most probably be one of the most beautiful hotels in Cattolica, if not actually the nicest one and I will try to write a detailed review so that it is as clear as possible. Location - it is the only hotel located on the beach (literally) - you actually get out of the building and your feet will directly hit the sand :). Rooms/Cleanliness - we are travelling with our 1.7 years old baby girl so a clean room was absolutely mandatory in order for us to have a nice, relaxing stay. We definitely found that! The room was spotless and has been kept like that every day by the absolutely amazing cleaning ladies. I have read reviews saying that there were dirty bed sheets .... no no no. It was definitely not our case. Everything is literally spotless. I have also read reviews saying that the bathrooms need an upgrade. You guys....this is a historic place and from what I could tell, the owners definitely did their best to keep little pieces of history and combine them with new furniture and we believe they did an amazing job. If you expect to come in a place like this and find nothing of its historic charm.....then this is definitely not a good place for you. Restaurant - we have the all inclusive meal plan and we are definitely satisfied. Not only by the food but also by the incredible staff working in the restaurant! They are always smiling and nice (even though I am pretty sure this has been a pretty tough year for all the people working in the hotel business). Now....a message to the owner. Dear Sir.....you definitely manage the hotel with the most potential in Cattolica. I am sure you put a lot of work and soul into this structure because we could definitely see that in everything. However, there are some details missed, small things that could actually make a difference and I am only giving a few examples (even though my list is long :)): the things people see when entering the hotel's garage (that is most definitely not a four star view; the plastic flowers put on the tables of the bar - please please please replace them whith some big white candles and it would make such a different impression; please clean the terrace you have on the 4th floor and put some nice lounge chairs over there - the view up there is AMAZING and the hotel guests would definitely appreciate it (if the hotels' structure allows it, a little bar up there would be.....heaven!); do something about the hotel's ”backyard” because I know it is not your fault but that grafitti and those broken windows are not necessarily the nicest things to see.... and the list could go on. I would be more than happy to detail even more :).
