Casa Marbella

A great place to stay in Tortuguero. Not fancy like some other hotels but very solid and comfortable on the basics. Nice clean rooms and good service. Right on the river and inside the small village (which is interesting to walk around). Breakfasts are filling but unimaginative, basically fruits, scrambled eggs, bread and pancakes. No cheeses or vegetables. Internet wifi available but unstable. Never mind...a good choice anyway.

Prior to booking here I had considered booking at a lodge out of 'town' but I'm super glad I chose Casa Marbella - the boat dropped us straight to their dock, they were smack in the middle of the village (which is only one street about a mile long) so super easy for looking around and getting tea / drinks etc, and directly opposite a track to the beach. Also really close to the boat stop for going on the canal cruises and leaving Tortuguero. It was lovely having a dining setting next to the canal where breakfast (included in your stay) was served each morning. The rooms were comfy, clean, and the shower good. As others have mentioned there was a little noise from the street at night. Two nights is perfect in Tortuguero, you only need a Sinac pass for one day as you can do a canal tour in the morning, come back for breakfast, then do the jaguar trail with a guide in the afternoon. It's diffucult to rate Casa Marbella because it depends on what you expect. If your looking for a place with spacious rooms, clean and with a friendly staff this is perfect. There can be some noise from the street. ( When we visited all the shops and bars closed at 9pm. So not that big of a problem) Or from neighbours. The breakfast is very limited. Choice between panckakes and scrambled eggs ( no ham, bacon,...) They have a beautiful deck to sit and have a drink. In the evening we got to see racoons in the trees. Since visiting tortuguero takes a max of 2 nights. I think Casa Marbella is defenitly a good option.

Lovely relaxed accommodation with a beautiful deck overlooking the river and right in the centre of town. The staff are friendly and helpful and the rooms are comfortable with air conditioning. We booked 3 tours through the accommodation and had a wonderful time on each one seeing a huge amount of wildlife. Breakfast is tasty, if simple. Rooms by the reception are a little nosiy in the morning but it was a great place to stay.

It is located in the center of the village, close to all restaurants and activities. The front desk lady was very helpful with helping us organize all the trips. They have a guide working with them. The room was cleaned daily. The only problem was weak Wifi

The terrace was beautiful. The guy sweeping leaves off the roof during the evening and the family with very loud children!

We can really recommend a stay in Casa Marbella. Perfect location in the centre of the village Tortuguero. The rooms are clean and the beds are confortable. The boat brought us directly to the entrance of the house. As someone else wrote, you have to pay cash in Colones or in Dollars. The breakfast is nice.

Casa Marbella is a small bed and breakfast facility on the Tortuguero Village. We booked our stay through *******. Before our arrival, Casa Marbella sends detailed instruction on how to reach the public ferry dock, and a time table of the ferry. This helps us to correctly navigates to the ferry landing place. When we reach La Pavona (Embarcadero a Tortuguero), we were surprised to be greeted by a lady working for Casa Marbella, with our ferry tickets at hand. We had a good conversation with the lady when we were waiting for the ferry, and she explained in details of the tours operated by Casa Marbella. We ended up purchasing 3 tours from Casa Marbella: Night wildlife spotting & Jungle walk, the Tortuguero Canal tour, and the Night wildlife spotting & Jungle walk. We have spent more on the tour than our room, and we were pretty satisfied with the tour. The Casa Marbella sits beside the canal with a beautiful dock and dining area that faces the canal. The hotel room is very small and basic though. The plus side is that the room has a working air conditioning unit, which is very useful in the hot and humid Tortuguero weather. Some negative side is that the shower is heated by a small electric heater at the shower head, which frequently trips during the shower. So don’t be surprised if the shower suddenly turn cold, and you should try to turn back the switch that controls the shower heater outside your room. Casa Marbella offers coffee around 5am, to accommodate earlier riser for the morning canal tour. A continental breakfast is offered, with some fruit, coffee and orange juice, and the choice of either bread and scrambled egg or pancakes.

Basic but comfortable and clean room, with a large bathroom and a very pleasant balcony overlooking the canal. The morning tour in the canals is a must, a lot of wildlife spotting is guaranteed. We are very fond of wildlife so we had three tours (all the three mornings of our staying) instead of just one. The first two tours were perfect. In the morning of the third day we found out that they didn't take note of our booking of the tour. However in the end they somehow fixed the problem, so we only have positive memories of Casa Marbella and of its staff.
