Beach Village at the Del, Lxr Hotels & Resorts

To be clear this is the Coronado hotel but the new addition on the beach. It’s 2 story hotel villas with a shutters hotel /marthas vineyard vibes-porches and sea views. Brand new! You have full access to the Coronado hotel pools/restaurants etc which are 2 min walk. The valet is 75 dollars a day and self parking is 50 dollars a day. The beachfront restaurant is serea and gorgeous and excellent. The price is 1100 night and a lovely regular size brand new hotel room with ocean view. My lower review is just because the hotel right next store-the main Coronado hotel- is under construction so loud and the beach is unswimmable due to sewage leak—so for the Paris ritz hotel prices not worth it at current time. But once these two issues have past-it’s a great beautiful hotel and I’ll be back.

I would give this hotel 4 stars but there was no room service and that’s an issue for me. A hotel like this should have room service. And Netflix did not work. And no mini bar. Just 2 bottles of water and a coffee maker. Otherwise the property is quite nice, it’s quiet, and has lovely views. It is a walk to the hotel’s amenities. The spa was great. The shops are nice. The restaurants are good. But since we came for a work/hang out weekend… the lack of room service/drinks/snacks was a bummer. I would try staying at the main part of the hotel next time. At least you could run down and get something quick if you needed to.

Love the beach, love the area, love the weather, love the property and even love the room, but the hotel mgmt has absolutely ruined our vacation with deafening corporate events on the beach, hotel construction and shady practices. I've been coming to Hotel Del Coronado for over 30 years. We've stayed at Beach Villages 3 times in the last few years - the last time in May 2023. Hotel Del has always been a special place for us, so we saved up for a special anniversary splurge at an ave price of $3000/night for 2-Bedroom Oceanfront Sunset Suite Cottage (cottages are right on the beach, while villas are one row back). I cannot tell you how much we LOVE Coronado and Hotel Del so it pains me to write this, but I want other travelers to beware. The website, confirmation email and even Hilton Honors app said that "the hotel will be undergoing renovations from Jan 9-May11, 2023". So we booked our stay in May at what we thought was the end of construction. Unfortunately as soon as we arrived we were told that was an error on the website and construction will be going on for the rest of the year! This meant that the pools were out of order, the Windor Cottage restaurant was mid-demolition and there was constant jackhammering of bricks and construction noise in nearly every building. To their credit, they have an exceptional concierge staff. Sandra offered us a discount and helped us find a room as far from the noise as possible.....or so we thought. While we felt disappointed that we spent so much money and couldn't use many of the amenities, we still had a lovely time for the first 2 days. It's hard to be in a bad mood on the most beautiful stretch of beach in all of CA, if not the world. But... On our last night, there was a special event, hosted by Hotel Del for Verizon, on the beach directly in front of our room with music so loud that our room shook and we had to wear earplugs from 5p-10p. Seriously, we could hear throbbing, thumping bass for 5+ hours like we were in a club - even with the doors closed AND earplugs in! They assured us the noise would be finished by 10p, but then all of the construction work to break down the event begins. So it was another couple hours of beeping construction vehicles and workers traveling the path in front of Beach Village to demo the whole set. Again, the concierge (Jay) tried to make it right for us but we had to shut all the doors and windows and lock ourselves in the room. So effectively we didn't get to enjoy our patio, the beach, the sunset or the amenities for much of our last day. Side note - of our 3 trips here, this is the 2nd obnoxious beach party we've experienced. We originally assumed it was a rare event, but I can attest it is quite common. The last time it happened, they gave us a discount and said "Hotel Del books these events in front of Beach Villages rather than the main hotel - sometimes without telling us - because they want to minimize the impact to hotel guests". It pains me to write this review as a long time visitor to the Beach Villages. I’ve stayed at the Beach Villages over 15 times and it sadly has gotten so bad I cannot return unless the situation improves. Currently there is loud construction occurring throughout the property. We woke each day at 7am to the sound of a jackhammer on concrete in the room next door and construction on the pool to the other side of us. This continued throughout all four days of the stay. It was impossible to relax with the constant sounds of construction work until evening. Worse than even the construction, though, are the corporate parties that the Hotel Del holds directly in front of the $3200/night Beach Village rooms. It was the “farewell dinner for AT&T” and there were hundreds of people in attendance on the sand right in front of the Beach Villages. This meant that starting the day before the party, crews were setting up lights and other items for the party. The day of the party, crews of workers were out by 7am setting up for a massive party. So instead of seeing sand and waves we saw workers setting up tables, chairs, food trucks, catering areas, check in booths, etc, that completely obstructed our view. This was after specifically requesting a beachfront suite AWAY from the parties months in advance of the trip, as I’d been burned by a similar party at an earlier trip. Clearly the saying is true, fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me (for giving the hotel another chance). Unless the hotel decides to prioritize the experience of the Beach Villages guests over corporate events, i would highly recommend staying somewhere else.

See review already on TripAdvisor Cottage Junior Suite, room 1102. Room was wonderful. All the Beach Village rooms have been updated in 2023 and the results are fabulous. New lighter color palette, cream and blue primarily. Very "beachy" but trendy. We had an outdoor patio, almost as large as our home patio, and several lounge chairs, a table and chairs and a fire pit ! Location was perfect. Right in front of The Beach Club, where you can pickup your complementary chair and umbrella and right next to the Taco Shop for drinks and snacks. The Village pool was steps away and the breakfast restaurant, Sheerwater was a two minute walk away. All of the Staff, from housekeeping and maintenance to the Concierge were friendly and helpful. The separate check in and valet parking for Beach Village guests, made these functions quick and easy All in all, a wonderful time. I could easily live in room 1102 Kudos to Hilton for restoring thus historic hotel.

We just completed our 9th visit to the Beach Village at the Del. We’ve enjoyed the Del over the years and really like Coronado. We’ve noticed a significant decline in the customer experience in recent years. When you go to a place like the Beach Village/Del, it is all about the experience. You know it is going to be pricey (e.g., $14 for a can of beer from the Eno Market but you expect it in a place like the Del). Unfortunately, they have compromised this via their focus on corporate events over individual guests. When we visited a year ago, there was a sales award corporate event that overlapped with our stay. The company bought out the Sun Deck for our entire time there. IMHO the Sun Deck is one of the gems with a bar and food that has great views of the ocean and sunsets. No individuals had use of the Sun Deck for those four days/nights and the same company had events on the beach in front of the Beach Village. Last year we had to wait until 5:45 p.m. to get into our two-bedroom ocean front suite/cottage in the Beach Village. This year, we reserved a three-bedroom ocean front suite/cottage for five nights. The daily cost for the suites totaled $7,000 per night including taxes and fees. Right in front of our suites was the Beach Club, an exclusive place on the beach with umbrellas, chairs, a big entrance and unfortunately a completely obstructed view of the beach and ocean. Right next to this is an area where they now hold corporate events. During our five-night stay, there were three different events that also created an obstructed view from our patios. They have to set-up and tear down for these events so there is noise and disruption. My step-son said they were vacuuming the sand in the area after a Friday night event until midnight and he could not get to sleep. I did talk with Krista who is the Director of the Beach Village. She ended up making a small credit (equal to about 5-6% of the total bill) for these challenges. The employees look weary when you bring up the issues as you know they are getting inundated from guests. At the end of the day, shame on Del management and Hilton Curio for enabling these circumstances when guests are shelling out $7k a night. I feel bad for the employees who get irate guests. Another experience that has degraded is the Windsor Cottage. You used to have access to the Cottage being a Beach Village guest for a complimentary breakfast. About five years ago, they took away the complimentary breakfast and you had to pay for it (it was a small buffet type experience). In the last 2 years they renovated the Cottage and it just reopened and is called the Ocean Concierge Club. When we checked in we asked about and it was $150 per person, per day to use the Cottage. They provide a breakfast and lunch as part of the charge but if you want dinner that is separate. If 3 people wanted to use the Cottage for four days it would total another $1800 on top of what they are paying for their rooms,
