As the last leg of our 2 week italian grand tour, for our special anniversary we paid for an upgrade to a junior suite with lake view and balcony, described on the website as "elegantly finished and ideal for couples who love a romantic and sophisticated atmosphere". Our experience lacked the "refined furniture and delightful view of the lake in the harbour." The safe deposit box was broken and when we complained that we had paid for an upgrade and requested another room the manager informed the receptionist the hotel was full and our room (116) was classed as a junior suite. Our tour operator has tried to get a full explanation on our return to UK, but the hotel manager was arrogant and defensive then ignored further enquiries. The photographs included are more realistic than those on the hotel website, which misled us to have expectations of luxury and relaxation. Our balcony was too small to sit out on, and the view was spoiled by the dirty wall and air con units with pigeon excrement. Our room was the lord byron superior room (with a large open space) in the website photos, but the manager specified that 116 is a suite was 2 large (sparce ) adjoining rooms with 2 bathrooms.
