Faded glamour, with a hefty emphasis on 'Faded' Sadly I don't think I've ever been as disappointed with a hotel I have spent this much money on. The hotel was clearly once beautiful, but is many years (probably decades) past its best. The check in welcome was not a good start as we drove here and the unclear instructions about where to park whilst we unloaded left us anxious about getting towed. The receptionist didn't seem to care about this at all. The interiors are really shabby and, in places, smelly. The bathroom felt like bits of it might fall off at any point. the hairdryer seemed like it was from the 1970s Breakfast is good when they bother to fill the buffet items up (over 30 minute wait for bacon this morning) They also charge extra for setting up a cot in the room, which I've not experienced in a room costing＞ $200 before. Let alone $300. Best avoided

This is my third stay in Mayer and Splendid, a postponed trip due to family illness and bereavement. It has been very disappointing, with the more personal service of previous stays all but gone. The room we booked (a junior suite) had no comfortable furniture in it, and only one set of toiletries were provided for a nine day visit. The room was clean and staff did ensure it was freshened every day, however only minimal replenishment to coffee, tea and fridge items. It’s a shame but I won’t be returning to this hotel when next in Desenzano.

As the last leg of our 2 week italian grand tour, for our special anniversary we paid for an upgrade to a junior suite with lake view and balcony, described on the website as "elegantly finished and ideal for couples who love a romantic and sophisticated atmosphere". Our experience lacked the "refined furniture and delightful view of the lake in the harbour." The safe deposit box was broken and when we complained that we had paid for an upgrade and requested another room the manager informed the receptionist the hotel was full and our room (116) was classed as a junior suite. Our tour operator has tried to get a full explanation on our return to UK, but the hotel manager was arrogant and defensive then ignored further enquiries. The photographs included are more realistic than those on the hotel website, which misled us to have expectations of luxury and relaxation. Our balcony was too small to sit out on, and the view was spoiled by the dirty wall and air con units with pigeon excrement. Our room was the lord byron superior room (with a large open space) in the website photos, but the manager specified that 116 is a suite was 2 large (sparce ) adjoining rooms with 2 bathrooms.

Great hotel in a great location. We loved our stay here from the moment we checked in. The staff were great and gave us an upgrade on arrival. The room was perfect and so big for our family of 3. We are breakfast every day and dinner one night. So central to walk and get bikes or ferry to local villages. Sunset cruise is a must! Can't wait to come back!

My experience of this hotel has been completely ruined by how the hotel managed a fire alarm being triggered last night. Around 10/10.30pm the fire alarm started ringing. Fire doors in the corridors automatically closed and we left our room and made our way outside. There was not one single member of staff around to give us instructions. A small group of guests gathered outside. Still no staff around and no instructions. Eventually the alarm stopped, we waited for instructions - but there were none so my husband and I came back to our room. Still no staff around at all - even though, to get out of the building and back in we walked through the lobby and past the front desk. Absolute disgrace!!!!

The hotel is in an excellent location in Desenzano. Close to centre and ferry piers. About a 15 minute easy walk to the railway station. Cheap and reliable service to Verona Milan and Venice. Hotel provided transfers to/from station. We had booked a suite and room was excellent with views over lake from the balconies. Room was very traditional but very well equipped and had a large jacuzzi bath and modern en-suite. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was fine with good range of continental food including gluten free. The coffee was made to order and excellent. The hotel has no restaurant for lunch or dinner but there are plenty of restaurants nearby so no issue for us. I would highly recommend this hotel if you are looking for a good base at the south of the lake. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Property is authentic and clean. We were in a lake view with balcony. Was lovely sitting out in the evening. Receptionists are warm and friendly, even came to collect us from train station. Hallways and stairs beautiful. Breakfast was extensive and nice overlooking lake. A real gem of a beautiful place.
