The location of this small hotel is perfect!! I have some mobility issues and this area of old town was so great. We had a small Juliet balcony right over the pedestrian walkway with views of the water. Large room and shower. We opted for the included breakfast. Very very large selection of hot and cold and made to order eggs. Breakfast staff so warm and helpful in any way you needed. Very much worth to include this option. The rooftop pool and bar had a lot of seating options and the views could not be better. If I had to find something negative. It would be that front end staff that we had did not explain some issues in room. Like two switches as you enter the room is for cleaning staff which we didn’t know how to use. The phone was not typical in room and had no idea how to use without asking . The size of the room is quite large and nicely laid out. But not many options for your clothes. We worked out of our suitcase due to lack of drawers . Also, for a 5 star hotel, I found it odd that they charged a fee if needed to weigh your luggage for airport weight restrictions. Having said all the above, I would not hesitate to stay here again. If we are able to return Barcelo will be our #1 choice

This hotel besides being a very confort one, in a very good location, walking distance from many of the highlites of Funchal, works with a very good company of taxis(Carvalho and Santos Funchal) that gave us a very good and ponctual services on transfers from and to the airport and very good day tours, from a very reasonal price.

Exceptional staff. Lovely hotel in great central location. Large selection of food for breakfast, including some local produce. Sadly our stay was marred by really loud music from neighbouring bar/club. Even though we were on the 4th floor with closed double glazed windows the bass could be heard until the early hours (circa 4am) most nights. Such a shame, feel for the hotel.

The staff, facilities and bedrooms were all superb value for money. We couldn't have asked for more for breakfast, we were happily surprised with the quantity of options and the quality! Everything was clean, fresh, well maintained and looked after. We will return to the island and will return to this hotel for sure

The Barcolo is within easy walking distance of all downtown restaurants, shops, and attractions. The morning breakfast was extremely diverse, and high-quality. The room and facility were immaculate, and the staff were the best we have encountered anywhere. It is no wonder they were recognized as the best hotel in the world by Time for 2023.

A truly excellent hotel in the heart of Madeira. This hotel is in the center of the old city walking distance to many attractions with tons of restaurants very close by. The hotel is modern with nice amenities including a breakfast, a rooftop pool with bar and loungers and cabana for rent. The staff is attentive, professional and linguistically nimble. I could not recommend a place more highly
