After our stays in 2022 and 2023, we decided to travel to the island for a third time this year and were excited to see what’s new after the takeover by Minor Group's NH Collection brand, e.g. whether we would see some familiar faces again or if/how the food had changed. We were welcomed at Velana Airport and taken to the lounge, where we waited for our onward transfer. We know there are endless reports about the transfer - YES, the journey is exhausting and long, that is a fact, but we already knew this before our first stay and we are prepared to put in the effort because we know what awaits us a few hours later. Basically, we can say that there are no major changes for the time being - not yet! We have met fewer familiar faces than expected, but have had the opportunity to get to know many new and wonderful people through many conversations and take them to our hearts. You often read about courteous staff - we have also been to other islands in the Maldives and yes, there were nice and courteous staff there too, BUT what we experienced here can hardly be put into words. The quote "You come as a guest and leave as a friend" is not true for us, because we left as part of a big family! There is no one who does not care about the well-being of the guests, we were asked for suggestions for improvement by employees with different responsibilities/tasks, chef Pradeep would have fulfilled every wish, but the selection of dishes is so extensive that we did not think it was appropriate to make any extra requests here. But it's not just the choice, the quality of the food is also excellent. A small innovation is the special theme evenings, where freshly fried fish, seafood and meat as well as pasta dishes are served daily, regardless of the theme. The AI concept has been changed slightly - you have the option of having lunch in the "Reef" buffet restaurant as usual - or redeeming daily "credits" at the bar for pizza or snacks (salads, soups, pasta, burgers, sandwiches, ...). In the evening, nuts are now also served with the cocktails - we were personally delighted. :-) The new owner has planned some changes - of course they are working on the well-known erosion problem, Some water villas are to be equipped with their own pool, renovation work is planned in the restaurant, another a la carte restaurant, the sunset bar is to be remodeled, possibly a deck will be added, ... The declared aim is to raise the quality and standard and offer guests a higher standard. Not too much needs to be said about the house reef: incredibly beautiful and fascinating to experience. Even after our 3rd stay and many snorkeling trips, we discovered countless sea creatures: endless species of fish, stingrays, eagle rays, reef sharks, sea turtles, octopuses, moray eels, lobsters, simply a dream!
