I am disgusted at this hotel. Considering the price and the star rating it should actually be a substandard 1.5 stars. Once you go into the hotel, it is quite dark, probably to cover up how old the hotel was. I booked a family room with 3 beds. At first glance it seemed ok, until you realized that the temperature was kept at 15 degrees to ward off the wetness and humidity. The humidity was so bad in the first room they gave us, that the walls were damp, the paint on the floor came off on our feet, and the beddings were wet. There was mold in the washroom walls, and I believe it made us sick. We arrived at 9:00, room 810, and then could not stand it anymore and asked for a different room. They brought us to a different room however the same situation where we had to blast the AC. We only fell asleep after sheer exhaustion, and we woke up with damp hair. I went to the lobby requesting for a refund for the rest of the visit. The staff said the humidity was normal at all hotels, however the hotel (across the street, Hotel One 18) we moved to was definitely not like that. They would not release us for the second night because it was 11;10 am. At the time of asking for a refund and release of our reservation, I also complained of the mold on the washroom sink. When we came back the mold was covered with more caulking. In order to endure the second night, we had a heater, dehumidifier and AC blasting. This stay at Empire definitely added to causing us to be sick during our stay in Hong Kong.
