Recruiting Sergeant

I have to say for the price and the food this place is brilliant in every way. The food in the restaurant is excellent and the portions are well above average you would find in most places. The position of the hotel is easy for Norwich and the North Norfolk coast and there is also plenty of parking.

I am not really a fan of staying in pubs. It always seems like staying in a B&B, but with noisier fellow guests. The Recruiting Sergeant, however, has morphed into a very popular and upmarket restaurant and although it still has a bar, the only place to enjoy your drink is in the garden, as all the tables inside and outside are reserved for dining. It was very quiet by 22:00. The room was in a converted attic, with a very narrow and quirky entrance. The room was very small, but bed was comfortable. Surprisingly, the bathroom is much bigger than the bedroom would suggest, with a full-sized tub. On the downside, there was no shower, which made the morning get away a bit more protracted than usual as it took quite a long time to fill the tub. There is no air con, and as the weather was quite hot (30+) and the room was a converted attic at the top of the building, it was stiflingly hot at night. I would recommend timing visits for cooler days/nights. The dinner and breakfast were both outstanding. The portions at dinner were huge. I made the mistake of ordering a starter, so I couldn't eat most of the main course which was a shame as it was delicious.

Love this place. Food absolutely delicious. Huge choice of food and very tasty. Staff very polite and welcoming. Service spot on. This is our third visit and can’t wait to go back. Location really good 10 mins from Norwich. I had steak and was cooked to perfection and cut like butter

Generous portions of really good food await you here. Restaurant was very busy but the staff still came up trumps. The Suet pudding could serve three it was delicious light suet pastry. Everyone's meal was very good too. Tables are close so no 5 . Well done.

The staff were all so kind and helpful that it made our stay. The hotel is brilliantly situated for touring the broads and is near to Norwich too. The room itself was very good and spacious. The food was amazing once we realised that 1 light bite and 1 main dish was ample for us to share as the portions are large. The only minor issue was the bathroom design, a large roll-top bath looked great but was impractical in such a small room.

Only one room left at the hotel. It was a tiny room in the converted roof, awkward to access up many stairs and doors. The room was very small with limited headroom, but it had a comfortable queen bed, tv and tea making. The ensuite had a bath with a hand held shower so it was very difficult having a shower but it was all clean and modern. We had dinner in the pub and it was very busy - excellent food and good service and choice of beers. Breakfast was included and this was very good - fresh orange juice would be nice. Other rooms here may be a little larger but our room would not take two suitcases. Overall, a pleasant stay courtesy the great food.
