Arriving over the small sea arch onto the rocky outcrop that Hotel Puntagrande clings to is a moment from fable, and the fantastical nature of all that lies inside this very special place leaves you feeling that your holiday was written into the pages of a great novel. This wonderful spot may be the very definition of remote but Paula and Davide are hosts with a keen eye and ear for international standards. Reassuring, warm, generous and full of joy and laughter their suggestions for our slow itinerary and places to indulge our love of the freshest food were perfect. What can only be described as 'a grand breakfast' served in a relaxed style with the sea breaking its long Atlantic waves all around is something we'll remember for ever. The short, boarded walk south along the coast to wonderful, secluded La Maceta natural pools and the anticipation of the ever-changing sunset drawing down right out front really make this the most magical El Hierro location. Just don't tell everyone, it is the smallest hotel in the world after all!

Absolutely wonderful little hotel. Perfect hosts and the dinners were some of the best food we have ever eaten. Do splurge on them. The chef is incredible. In every way, this hotel and this island are not to be missed. Suite at the top is wow. Service gracious, funny, engaged in island culture. Paula and Davide are special people.

Absolutely superb hotel in an amazing location on the beautiful island off El Hierro! The best decision we ever made was to celebrate our wedding anniversary there and it was an even better decision to take the suite located at the top of the hotel. Davide and Paula are brilliant hosts and looked after us very well. We ate at the hotel for all 3 nights and this was also a great experience. We saw a lot of the island by car and it has breathtaking scenery. If you are thinking of visiting the island and looking for a unique experience stay in this hotel, it is gorgeous!

We stood for 2 nights, the hosts Paula and Davide and their staff were so nice, with everything, so many derails we loved. Beside the location, it is their personal tough of the details what make this place to a dream. Thanks for everything, we would love to be back one day.

An unforgettable stay in this incredibly charming hotel, run very professionally by David and Paula. Every detail has been worked to make you live a unique moment. If you can afford the suite on the top floor, this moment will be all the more unique, with the two extraordinary terraces at your disposal. A great address!!!!

My wife and I stayed here for our anniversary and I can safely say it was the best decision of the trip. The hotel is a unique experience in a dreamlike location. Every little detail has been thought of and it has an incredible style that you can only find from independent hotels with owners that have a passion for what they do. We felt like we had been welcomed into the home of Davide and Paula but still had the privacy to enjoy our vacation - the perfect balance. The hotel is very special and the food exquisite - If you have the opportunity do not miss the chance to stay here - it really is a contender for best hotel in the world. Below is a bit more detail: The hotel is a short and very scenic drive from both the airport and the port. A taxi is possible and inexpensive but renting a car is definitely the best option as the island deserves to be explored. On arrival at the hotel the first thing that happens is your breath is taken away. The location of the hotel is just stunning and it blends in perfectly with the Atlantic Ocean on one side and the sheer mountain cliffs in the other side. It feels like you are on a wild tropical island. We were greeted by Paula who was super friendly and made sure we settled in nicely and gave a very nice introduction to the hotel and a good demonstration of the features of our room. Perfect start. The hotel is decorated with one of a kind items and several of the articles are significant to the history of the hotel or the island. You could easily spend many hours just looking at the decoration. The room itself was unlike any room I have ever stayed in. We were staying in the suite and the only way I can really describe it is perfect. The deign and style is unique, the wooden shower cabin with skylight is the best way to start the day. Front and back balconies giving the best views and sun opportunities whatever the weather or time of day. The bed is like sleeping on a cloud and you can even watch the stars through the window above the bed. For a small hotel there is a lot of storage space so you can keep the room spacious and it is very very private. You could easily stay in the room for the whole week and it would not feel wasted. The food. It is hard to use words to describe the eating experience, it is just too good for words. I’ll try though. Breakfast was a wonderfully presented selection of treats, all of the highest quality. Freshly made bread, top quality meats and cheeses, fresh fruit (mostly local) and perfect cakes to satisfy the sweet tooth. The coffee is spectacular and comes with a fun surprise (no spoilers). My wife has several complicated food allergies and these were catered for perfectly and she was especially impressed by the cakes which is normally never possible for her to take. Dinner - so good that we had it twice! Initially we decided we would have dinner on our anniversary as a treat, and what a treat it was. Super location, charming atmosphere, one of the smallest hotels of the world. Easy access by foot, nice surroundings with high mountains in thr background. Private transportation neccessary. Perfect for a young couple or people who are open-minded.

This is the perfect hotel, with the perfect owners, serving perfect food, in the perfect location on the most perfect island. This place is magical, my wife and I stayed here to celebrate our anniversary recently and we really could not have chosen a better place. The location is so special with breathtaking views of both the island and the ocean. The every intricate detail has been thought about in this hotel, the decoration is unique and carefully constructed, privacy is provided despite the small size of the hotel and comfort is high on the agenda. Falling asleep her is like falling asleep listening to the ocean on a small sail boat (with out the risk of seasickness). So calming and peaceful. The breakfast is out of this world and is a special event in itself but the the real masterpiece is the evening dinner. An amazingly arranged dining room provides the perfect setting for the top level food that is produced that would not be out of place in the top Paris or London restaurants. The owners make you feel like you are welcome in there home (despite not living onsite) and every attention was given to our comfort and enjoyment. The local area, if you need to leave the hotel, is also very nice with good choices for food nearby. It is also the perfect place to explore the whole island from if you have rented a car. I expected this place to be good but it really is the best hotel I have ever stayed in.

This wonderful, remote picturesque hotel offers a most relaxing stay. Paula and David are so helpful and attentive as hosts. The food in the restaurant is amazing, breakfast is all fresh and delicious too. If you love the sound of waves and want to get away from it all, this place is just perfect
