Blue Marmara Suite Hotel. review I wrote
I had the hotel arrange a private transfer for me for €40, the driver was late (which was ok by me), he kept saying he will be there, that he is being delayed by the Police checkpoint, but he ended up not coming, sending someone else, the Mercedes Van was full of smoke and I had been sick with a very bad cough. I was coughing badly, then in the middle of the highway the driver who didn’t speak English told me, via the Mic through a Translation App) that I can get off and take a Taxi. He was very aggressive in his driving, and whe. We arrived in Istanbul he refused to drop me off at the hotel and asked me to walk citing various excuses that were all lies: that the road was closed, that the traffic was so bad it would take him 2 hrs to get there when I could see cars moving.
Luckily I had an eSim, I called the hotel, they spoke to him. He still refused to drop me, he yelled at me to get off. He parked his van got my suitcase out and started walking. I had no idea where I was. He was on the phone, I stopped to ask 2 middle-age men if they spoke English. They did, when I told them what happened they told me this happens a lot in Istanbul. They didn’t even try to help by talking to the driver. They didn’t know where the hotel was. I stopped at another store where the owner was standing.
The Hotel receptionist, who was the only working that day (by now it was close to 5pm, I arrived at 1:40pm). The Hotel receptionist walked me to the hotel and dragged my suitcase. The reason I arranged for a Private Transfer through the hotel is because of all the bad stories I heard about taxis in Turkey (threatening to leave people on the highway unless they pay more than what was agreed in, stopping and picking men to intimidate the lady into paying more…)
But I never thought that even a private transfer through the hotel can go bad.
This experience of my first solo trip to Turkey has left a bitter taste.
The Hoyel should have never taken payment for the transfer.
Having said this: the staff was nice and pleasant: Hussein was the one who came by foot to get me from the Taxi.
Within minutes of arriving at the hotel, I met a young Algerian couple who stayed at the same hotel. They invited me to join them that evening after I told them what happened. I spent the next 2 days with them, they even helped me with the shuttle to the airport for my return. The husband woke up at 2am just to ensure I was safe. He waited until the shuttle came and made sure he checked who was inside, there were 2 young couples going to the airport.
The Manager Ipeck has not even reached out to me to apologize about what happened.
But both Hussein and Emir were very nice.
I had booked a Suite as that was the only one they had available.
The bed had horrible sheets that didn’t fit the mattress: I asked the staff on duty that evening, (Emir) to bring me sheets, there was only 1 Sheet covering the mattress (not fitted) but none to put before the bedspread. Emir was very kind and went back twice when we realized the Sheets didn’t fit. They looked like they were cut from a piece of fabric and not sheets (see Pictures).
One of the window came off from frame so I never opened it.
There was so much dust and dust balls under the bed. It was not cleaned properly.
We ne of the windows in the bedroom almost fell in me when it tried to open it, it was not attached to the frame. I closed it and left closed during my stay.
The bathroom was clean and functioning which was plus. There no visible mould
WIFI didn’t work. There was an American guest who complained about it more than once and got very upset with them.
When a hotel advertises WIFI then they should make sure it works.
I will never go back to Istanbul and certainly not stay at this hotel again.
