When I was 18 my company sent me on my first training course and I stayed at a Guest house in Blackpool this was 1971. 53 years later I was transported straight back to that Guest House when my wife and I stayed at The White Lady Hotel, Kinsale. The Hotel proprietor has gone to a lot of trouble to recreate a 1970’s Guest house bedroom. They must have scoured junk shops and house clearance firms to furnish the room. The excellent way the bottom sheet doesn’t quite cove the mattress. The very narrow gap between the single beds pushed together to make a double and the third single bed. The starting to rust rust bed side lights fitted with thick dust covered lamp shades. The way they have made sure the cobwebs in the corner is left undisturbed while placing a piece of art on the wall which imitates a painting by numbers and captures the theme perfectly. My wife really enjoyed the thrill of the shower. The controller is either pre thermostatic or that part has failed. She adjusted the temperature and started to shower the temperature would suddenly go to extremely hot, fortunately it would then go to cold which soothed the scalding. The cracked and damaged shower tray worked just fine. As there were two of us we were fortunate to have been issued with two hand towels for our stay, yes one each. No sharing for us. Security and safety is a important to this hotel and therefore they have made sure you cant lock yourself in the bathroom by preventing the lock working by covering the lock mechanism with years of paint, also don’t worry about the hole in the ceiling with wires poking out that was just a smoke detector and there is one nearer the bed, who need two? The only things that could have taken away the 1970’s vibe is the flat screen tv, the illuminated bathroom mirror and the heated towel rail BUT they have even thought of that by making sure the tv picture freezes and breaks up preventing you from watching a programme. The illuminated mirror doesn’t light up anyway and the the heated towel rail isn’t turned on. This is important as if you decided to have a shower or wash in the evening your one towel will still be wet in the morning. So do you wash at night or in the morning or possibly do you share one of the towels in the evening and then use the other one in the morning? Some may ask why I have given such a high star rating to The White Lady, Kinsale. I would like as many people as possible to read my review so they can decide if they would also like to have the same experiences we had.
