Chateau de la Treyne

Our experience was mixed. On the one hand the hotel’s service, ambience, furnishings were extraordinary. The front desk staff were most helpful and informative. The property is right out of a story book perched high above the Dordogne. The decor of our room was most luxurious and comfortable. Breakfast was excellent with attentive service. But we were disappointed with our dinner as explained in a separate review of the restaurant.

This was my second time staying at Chateau de La Treyne. First time was with a group of bicycle riders.this time I brought my wife and another couple. both times the stay were memorable.

Chateau de la Treyne exceeded all our expectations. I knew from their website and photos that this would be a magical place to stay, but my imagination fell short when it came to our actual experience. Given the opulence of the Chateau and its surrounding beautiful grounds and gardens, it could have felt a little daunting, but from the moment you enter, you feel so taken care of, that it almost feels like home. I don’t think I’ve been treated as well at any hotel or resort; the service on every level was outstanding. You simply never wanted for anything. Their genuine hospitality, their exuberance and pride in their work showed in their utmost care for the smallest of details. And if you really want to treat yourself, dine at their fabulous restaurant as often as you can! Superbe! Thank you to all at the Chateau de la Treyne for making our stay, one that we will treasure always. Merci beaucoup!

A magical stay in a beautiful place where everyone was exceptionally welcoming and thoughtful, creating a wonderful atmosphere. We hope to return.

We had a delightful 4-night stay at the Chateau as we explored this region for the first time ever. The staff is absolutely amazing- every single one of them - with Annabelle in reception a standout. She helped us coordinate a number of lunches and outings, recommending we tour the caves (a highlight of the trip) as well as visit some local "farm cooking" restaurants which we really enjoyed. The EV chargers in the parking area are appreciated and were well-used during our entire stay. There is a Tesla charger and a generic charger, and then also a household outlet so theoretically three cars can charge at once. The restaurant was beautiful in both service, cuisine and atmosphere. We stayed at another R&C property with similar characteristics and they offered a "residents' menu" for those staying multiple days which I thought was a nice touch for those wanting something a little less formal. We ended up dining there one evening and then exploring local surrounding restaurants which the hotel expertly recommended. I can only imagine how beautiful this hotel must be in the summer, with the roses in bloom and sun on the river. Even in the near-constant rain it was a gorgeous place to spend time. Our one issue was that the carpet of the room seemed to be scented with a rose-type scent which at first was nice but soon gave us headaches. It was immediately discontinued once we mentioned it to the front staff, another indicator of their reponsiveness and professionalism. The beds were very comfortable and the room was beautifully appointed with little snacks and gifts each evening. The heating/cooling worked perfectly - imagine how challenging that must be in an ancient castle!  When we asked for a coffee maker in our room it appeared immediately.  Overall, it was a lovely stay with a magnificent staff. We hope to return in the sunny weather to experience the beautiful Chateau de La Treyne again! Thank you to the entire team for making our stay so special.

Exactly what a high-quality hotel should be. Despite having travel issues and only being in the hotel for 11 hours we really enjoyed our stay. Our room was extremely comfortable with a super view over the gardens. The bed was large with high quality bedding and the shower was, perhaps, the best I’ve ever used. We were not able to have dinner due to our travel problems but breakfast was excellent with a mix of sweet and salty options and amazing breads and pastries. The staff were superb - confident and relaxed but professional. We will certainly be back but for several days next time.

was staying in this magnificent, stately chateau along the river....do not miss staying here if you are in the area...you will be rewarded...the view takes your breath away! The chateau is kept in immaculate condition, it seemed as if every grass blade was in place...so beautiful was it all...the grounds, the elegant interior and the room. You are welcomed and made to feel like a special guest immediately. Our room was newly remodeled and stunning..beautiful fabrics, furniture, roomy bath...all the essentials at your fingertips...super comfy bed....the terrace invites you anytime of day to see the view, have a glass of wine or just sit and take it all in. We enjoyed breakfast and dinner in the lovely dining room...both meals excellent...dinner one of the best we had on the trip... prepared and served...with taste and thought...we needed more time and hope to return.....thank you all at Chateau de le Treyne for making our visit so memorable, for taking such good care of us...just perfection!

Château de la Treyne is outstanding. The location, building and immediate surroundings, staff, rooms and food are all top notch. In over 35 years of travelling to France I would put staying here in our top 5 experiences. The Michelin star restaurant served one of the best meals we have ever had, on the terrace overlooking the Dordogne.....bliss although expect to pay handsomely.

Upon arrival, you are greeted by beautiful scenery, a fairytale Château and friendly and efficient service at check-in. Despite arriving quite late from our flight from London to Brive (a very convenient airport for the hotel), they managed to pull together a delicious salad, foie gras and cheese-board for us despite being in the middle of service for their Michelin-starred restaurant. Both the salad and foie gras were the best I have ever tasted. During our stay, we walked the hotel grounds, made use of the pool and took visit recommendations from the very helpful front desk. All were thoroughly enjoyable and I'd highly recommend a trip to Autoire to do the round walk past the waterfall and small castle. The room was very comfortable, well decorated and maintained. The housekeeping was immaculate and there was great attention to detail with little pâtisserie, treats or fresh fruit placed in the room each day. Each day of our stay began with a slightly different, delectable set breakfast, complete with freshly baked pastries, served and presented beautifully by the excellent waiting staff. In particular, the woman who served breakfast, worked some dinner shifts and brought us brandy in the lounge on an evening epitomised the fantastic service we received throughout - unfortunately I cannot recall her name! The restaurant is excellent, and is certainly one of the best meals I have had at a one Michelin Star restaurant. If the weather is good, the tables on the terrace overlook the river valley. During our stay I proposed to my girlfriend in the rose garden. The staff made us feel like royalty. This was the perfect setting and we shall certainly be returning!
