Little Wanganui Hotel

This place was a great location to visit nearby Karamea and we loved the quietness of Little Wanganui. The beds were comfortable and the 2 bedroom cabin was cosy and colourful with its red kitchen, yellow duvet in the master bedroom and blue duvets in the bunk room. The shower had good pressure and the kitchen was modern and well equipped. There was a heater in the lounge and kitchen area which warmed up the cabin nicely. While the cabin was small it was a decent size for two adults, and one teen and one child. The outlook over the neighbour's farm was lovely. The cabin had good potential if a solution can be found to the black mold in the bathroom. Also there were a few dead bugs in the room and dead bugs on the bedding of one of the beds which one of the staff kindly vacuumed up for us. The property gardens also have potential if more care was put into them, then this would make the property more attractive.

Called in for scones on the way to Karamea and could smell a roast cooking in the background. The scones were so good we called back past for the Sunday Roast for dinner - and it was like Mum used to cook. Very yummy. Friendly and helpful staff who keep a clean fresh establishment.

Stopped here for a coffee on our way further north. What a great choice. We were early but the owner made us a coffee and a warm scone. It was the cheapest place for a coffee and food the whole trip round the island. On the way back stopped for a beer. Again the cheapest I have had since in NZ. The owners were super friendly. If you are in the north west of the south island. Stop in. If you're a fella make sure you use the toilet.

Positives: - Family Room with balcony was spacious, consisting of two bedrooms, small kitchenette, living area and bathroom - Kitchenette was adequately equipped - Free WiFi - Location: quiet, within 1/2 drive to major nature attractions Negatives: - Only one, small wall heater, not enough to heat the whole cabin - No electric blankets on beds - No shampoo/conditioner provided - No TV - Kitchenette very small and awkward to prepare meals in

Just stopped for a bite to eat, having driven from Westport and found walking tracks closed due to slips. Nice atmosphere, good food (though disappointing flat white), friendly folk. Would definitely stop if up here again on our 7th trip to NZ, from UK.

We'd heard good things about this pub and it didn't disappoint. Hearty, well priced dinner portions. The kids' menu was awesome and amazing value. They loved their burger, chips, salad and ice cream, and I loved that it cost $10! Husband enjoyed beautifully cooked whitebait patties and I felt like a salad so the chicken salad really hit the spot. Yum. Friendly, welcoming service.

Great place to stop: our large cabin had 2 bedrooms, shower, toilet, kitchen facilities, and a little deck with a rural view. The main hotel has great decor - and the family running the whole complex are so friendly

Just happened to stop for a break on drive from Westport to Karamea for some cave trails. What a super place, excellent food, friendly staff (though the coffee wasn't the best). Darts, pool, and an amazing backgammon board. Wish we had more time. A pleasant change from mundane Westport.
