Grande Bay Resort and Spa Mamallapuram

I had booked a five night stay at Grande Bay Resort, and paid a 50% deposit of 25,200 rupees, as requested. But three weeks before my scheduled check-in I suffered a cardiac emergency (arrhythmia and heart failure) for which I was admitted to hospital in Kolkata. Upon discharge I was advised to return directly to England for further treatment . I therefore had to cancel my Grande Bay booking. This was done sufficiently early that no cancellation fee applied, and Grande Bay agreed to refund my full deposit of 25,200 rupees. But eight weeks later the refund has still not arrived. On 24th. December 2023 I provided my full banking details for the refund. I also suggested Paypal and Wise as alternative, easy methods of transfer. On 11th. January 2024 Grande Bay wrote 'We would like to inform you that the refund process has been initiated'. But still no refund has appeared. On 27th. January 2024 I wrote to the Resort ***ager, Samuel Rajan, to complain that the refund had not arrived, more than a month after it was first requested. On 1st. February 2024 Mr Rajan replied 'Our sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused.......the amount will be transferred within a week's time'. But two weeks later there is still no sign of the refund. I find it hard to believe that Grande Bay Resort's bank is incapable of making a simple transfer within eight weeks. I am forced to conclude either that no instruction for payment has ever been given to the bank; or that the payment has been diverted into the personal account of a Grande Bay Resort staff member. Either way, this is theft, plain and simple. It is disgraceful conduct on the part of the ***agement at Grande Bay Resort. I cannot recommend making a reservation here if pre-payment of any deposit is de***ded.

The Grand Bay Resort is an excellent hotel. We stayed for 4 nights. It is located in walking distance form the beautiful monuments. There is a shuttle to go to the beach, but we prefered to walk the 5 minutes. We had a large, beautiful and very clean room with a balcony and seaview. Everybody was very helpful, friendly und polite. For dinner the chef came personally to ask us whether we had any special requests! The breakfast was plentiful and they have REAL capuccino!!! All in all: We enjoied every minute of our stay!

GRT being booked out was one of the best things that happened as it made me reserve a place at The Grande Bay, Mahabalipuram. The ambiance, decor and setting by the seashore all said peace, tranquility & relaxation. My laid back weekend was perfect. Not much of a crowd, but enough if I choose some hu*** contact. The L'attitude 49 took care of all my food cravings. ***ager Elias & the staff at L'attitude were courteous & went out of their way to meet my culinary requests. I loved their sweet potato fries ( skipped the garlic garnishing though!), found their vegan bowl too bland for my palatte, and enjoyed their fish Benedict. The Quentina Bar met my alcoholic urges. Don't miss a walk to the Horizon by the sea. The scenic beauty of land meeting the ocean & the sky is mesmerizing. The weather played spoil sport & did not let me witness the spectacular sunrises or sunsets! Would have loved a few photos. If a few of the sea facing accommodations had a chair lift installed it would have allowed my differently abled mother to get out and enjoy the outdoors. That would have made this a perfect weekend!

There were no instructions on how to use the safe and neither was the staff familiar. Other than this there was no issue. The beach was dirty with hu*** faeces. Obviously you have no control over this.

Excellent place to hangout with family/friends. Its a compact property and quiet place. Overall a nice experience. Food was sumptuous be al carte or the breakfast they served. Everyone at the resort was so down to earth and humble and at your service all the time. Pool was maintained well and a life guard positioned throughout.

this is a corporate feeling, cruise-ship, buffet type place. Quirky service in the restaurant and average food. Ditto in reception which always seemed to be preoccupied with anything else. Bit soulless. Good spa though.

excellent ambience, courteous staff - overall a good resort to relax and spend a quiet few days the rooms well clean and well maintained and housekeeping was good. the food was excellent and the catering staff was very good

Excellent cleanliness. Good ambiance good food very courteous staff Good parking space. Electric vehicle charging available. Beach front very clean and neat with a staff to monitor the activity swimming pool is extremely clean and well maintained

It was great experienced to staying with this hotel.hotel staff was very friendly and attentive. Housekeeping team was excellent for their cleanliness. Food was good. I will come back again. Thank you for your service.
