Prices on Martha’s Vineyard, including for hotels, have skyrocketed in the past few years. If you’re paying especially high rates, you can usually expect high-quality accommodations and customer service. The Faraway didn't provide either, which is the reason for a low 2-star rating. Although you’ll get a prime downtown Edgartown spot, there are other options most of the year that are not this pricey. The Faraway is charging the same rates as the Harbor View, but there’s no comparison to the experience you’ll have. If you’re dropping this amount of money, I recommend staying at the Harbor View instead. The Faraway opened in July but still hasn’t tackled the finishing touches: * The toilet paper holders are broken across the property. * The shower spray is not secured and the faucets were loose. * The workout machines are not hooked up to power or Wi-Fi, nor are there holders for books or electronic devices. As part of its upgrade from the former Kelley House, the hotel didn’t address needed upgrades or skimped on purchases: * There’s no elevator. If you can’t easily climb stairs, plan to stay on the first floor. There is no bellhop that we saw. These limitations should be included on the website so people who need an elevator aren’t blindsided when they arrive. * The walls are paper thin and we woke up to fighting and crying children both mornings. * Some of the “refresh” items are cheaply made. For example, the sofa in the room was hard and on par with Ikea furniture. Customer service is not consistent and appears to be an afterthought for some of the staff: * 24 hours elapsed from the time I called with an inquiry to when I received a callback. * The coffee machine was broken, and I was told to go down the street to buy some. Instead, a staff member should have run out and bought coffee. With the coffee, milk and cream should be provided, not creamers. * Housekeeping rushed us to leave over an hour before checkout time, knocking twice within 15 minutes. Information on the website is sp**** and sometimes inaccurate You’ll see that information on the website is minimal. I turned to TripAdvisor to see photos of the rooms and find out whether there were refrigerators in the room (there are). There is no information about parking or other FAQs. When I contacted the site’s digital assistant, it came back that you had to park on the side streets, which isn’t allowed overnight in Edgartown. The hotel does offer parking, which the hotel should promote as parking in Edgartown is limited. Recommendations to Management If you want repeat customers, please use this review as a punch list to up your game. Or, lower your rates to coincide with the experience you’re offering.
