Absolutely fabulous time at the Sunrise. I stayed for 4 nights with my mum 9th to 13th May. We had 2 different room types, the garden view room then the swim up room. Both rooms were spacious, spotlessly clean and quiet. Out of the two room categories the swim up room was my favourite, as it was so light and bright, with direct access in to a pool that was shared with 4 other rooms, however there was never anyone else in the pool other than ourselves so you did feel like it was your own pool. The balcony area was beautiful and a lovely comfy place to just chill out on too. Air con was good, keeping the room lovely and cool. Plenty of space and storage for belongings. The food is plentiful and varied at 2 buffet restaurants, there is also a la carte dining for lunch available at Papaya bar which is really delicious. There is a lovely restaurant you can book called Kot Nou included on the all inclusive and this was a taste of local Mauritiun cuisine, again delicious food. There was also another restaurant in the evening for a la carte dining which was more tapas style. Again available to book on the all inc. Highly recommend trying all restaurants and buffer restaurants to eat at. There are two bars, one at each pool. Both serving an array of drinks. I loved the phoenix beer and pina coladas, also the rum based cocktails which were really potent if you like your cocktails strong! There appeared to be loads of activities going on if you wanted to take part, the animation team being really friendly and informing you what was available. The beach is across the road. Whilst I've seen some people complaining about the beach being across the road please do not let this put you off, it's a 2 minute walk. There's loads of sunbeds and a little drinks cart provided by the hotel for a selection of cold drinks. Admittedly there's no beach bar or toilets, but that really is no big deal due to the location of the hotel in relation to the beach. Around both pools there's plenty of sunbeds, bean bags you can lie on, day beds, oversized cushions to laze around on and chill out on. This aspect I really like as you could just lie in complete comfort on a day bed or a huge bean bag. The staff and the service are very friendly and efficient in the restaurants. Albeit at the Papaya bar you could wait a while to be noticed to be served at times but i think us British are used to bar staff serving in order of people arriving at the bar. Not sure this concept has quite filtered through, but then again you're on holiday so no big deal if having to wait a few minutes to be served. The friendliness of the staff made up for it and more bar staff at peak periods (evening) would resolve this. My mum has reduced mobility and walks with a stick, she could get virtually everywhere on the complex with the exception of the upstairs Bar 31 which in the winter season is where the entertainment is held. There is no lift. It's not a major gripe, as we were only there for 4
