Very disappointing due to the lack of quality, hygiene and inhospitable service from the owner, Kilperick. The bed had a yellow stain, various types of hair and didn’t appear freshly made. There was a layer of dust on the surfaces including the coffee cups, inside the cupboards, and dead insects lay by the window. Neither the bathroom door nor the terrace door closed properly, the door handle to the terrace actually fell off so we couldn’t lock it. There was a mouldy smell in the room and the towels were moist and frankly disgusting. Our room was directly behind the reception area and despite the owner’s assurance that it would be quiet, it was incredibly noisy as we heard guests checking in/out and staff moving dishes. Breakfast was another letdown. Kilpernick spoke of a wholesome buffet along the bar but what we found was a small table of food that looked like leftovers with an ant trail to the bread. There was a power outage shortly after arrival which was poorly handled. Our room didn’t get much daylight so it was extremely dark and we weren’t offered any torches or candles. It was nearly impossible to get ready for dinner and once we returned the power was back but the air-conditioning failed throughout the night. All of this led us to checking out after the first night. We explained the situation to the receptionist, who told us she wasn’t allowed to deal with the situation and we should call Kliperick, which we did. Despite a long phone call where we agreed to resolve the matter amicably and find a compromise offering to pay for two nights rather than four, we were immediately charged the full amount. In conclusion, the hotel failed to meet basic standards of cleanliness, comfort, and hospitality with regards to the price charged - €450 per night. The sense of neglect and the dismissive attitude towards guests’ concerns made this a very unpleasant experience.
