After the hustle and bustle of Kathmandu we began to climb into the mountains. As the bus pulled ever harder around the hairpin bends, the vast Kathmandu Valley was spread below us with a magnificent sunset to top it off. Our sense of isolation was heightened by our final approach to the hotel up the steep, unlit driveway. However, we were met with a profusion of willing helpers as we were checked in and shown to our rooms. We’d lucked out with a massive room with wall to ceiling windows overlooking one of the terraces beyond which was the valley and the distant Himalayas. Being part of a group of 18, we appreciated that our dinner, chosen from an extensive menu, was served promptly and efficiently with everyone eating together. The next morning was a self-imposed early start for the showstopper that this area is deservedly famous for: the sunrise over the magnificent Himalayas. Whilst layers of cloud filled the valleys beneath us, the mountain range was mercifully clear and we were able to revel in the experience. Despite being in a group, the peace and tranquility pervaded the landscape making it almost a spiritual experience and easily the highlight of the entire tour. We later discovered that the entire mountain range had been blanketed in clouds for the previous 4-5 mornings: how lucky were we? That this hotel is so perfectly situated to enjoy these spectacular views is worthy in itself to return but it is a relaxing, friendly place with plenty of little seating areas and sunrooms from which to enjoy the views. Added to which are the tranquil gardens and numerous roof terraces.
