This is a good 3 star hotel , we had a family room ( 3 friends ) it was comfortable, beds fine , towels and toiletries provided. Tea and coffee facilities so all good . Parking there . Bathroom in need of TLC but reflected in price . Location great , building impressive but could be so much better if money invested into it ! Breakfast chaotic , not busy in restaurant but disorganised, no one in charge , running out of most hot food , Juice, pasties , hot water - had to ask for everything. Staff nice enough but someone needs to take charge . Lots of improvements needed .

For a 3 Star hotel this somwhat quirky establishment punches above it's weight. Situated in the town of Hitchin, it is less than a five minute walk into the town centre. Historic architectural building during it's long life together with some careful blending has produced an interesting place to visit. I got a pleasent welcome at reception, which is just inside the main entrance and was directed to my room via a courtyard with a roof resembling the diamond shape glass building outside the Louvre in Paris, through to a possibly Georgian corridor to part of the original priory with Elizabethan style stairs, a vaulted ceiling and original walls. I had a double room which had everything I needed including an iron and ironing board in the wardrobe. Breakfast was served in a lovely Georgian room looking out through tall windows over parkland belonging to the hotel. A choice of Continental or tradition English was on offer. I chose the full English which was very tasty and well cooked. I loved my stay here, I send my thanks to the team behind the scenes and will definately be staying there again.

The building is so beautiful. I stayed in a single room. It was a good size with a large bathroom. It was warm and toasty. The breakfast was good, lots of choice, fresh and hot. The view from the breakfast room is lovely. A special thank you to Luke who very kindly found me a private room to hold a 4.5 hrs video call for my work on the day I checked out. The hotel was busy and I was extremely grateful that Luke could help me. I’ll be returning for sure as my daughter is studying in the area . Good car park and proximity to the lovely town centre makes this even better!

Was very happy considering the bad reviews , room clean , Bed comfy , breakfast good and staff very friendly. I Would stay again if needing a hotel in the area, didn’t give 5 stars as it is a bit rundown but that didn’t spoil our stay. Very handy having free parking

Dreadful hotel but I’m sure it was great once upon a time. Stayed in priory Court which smelt fusty. Bedroom door handle falling to bits. Bathroom was awful and generally very worn and shabby. Breakfast was awful with the background noise being a loud squeaky toaster that went from warm bread to burnt toast - cooked breakfast for me was inedible. Really not worth the money at all and won’t be back.

The hotel is a 3 star just on the outskirts of the town centre so a great position with parking included. We had a family room which was roomy, well stocked with tea and coffee and a queen sized very comfortable bed. Bathroom was adequate with a great shower although decor was a bit tired and worn. The breakfast cereal and fruit / yoghurt was again adequate, but the cooked breakfast was first class...very tasty. Luke was very informative and helpful as were other staff members. As a 3 star hotel it is very good for the money so much so we have booked again for a future event.

I have stayed here before and had a wonderful experience so chose to book again and recommended it to family members too. We booked rooms for one night, Double premium rooms and were looking forward to our stay. When we arrived we were met with what looked like a building site, they were setting up for a Halloween event so we were stepping over props and tools to book in. We were then issued keys to our rooms which were over in the priory court because they had zero space in the main hotel due to the construction of Halloween set. I had booked my room in June, I had received no notification about this event or the fact that the restaurant and bar was also closed , in fact , I was receiving messages on the day of arrival saying about how wonderful the new restaurant was and how great the ambience in there was, we should try it. We went to our rooms and both were far from premium, the mattresses was substantially larger than the bases, we had a leak coming from under the bath, my family members had a plug in heater as the radiator was broken, dirty carpets and threadbare chairs. We complained and were moved but to identical rooms, ok, no leaks but the mattresses were still huge in comparison to the bases, the bases were disgusting, the taps spun around in my families room, the list of issues was endless but there was always an excuse and the comment that they only have those rooms available. We had to stay as we had nowhere else to go, we went to the party we were in Hitchin for and returned to sleep. We had breakfast this morning , that was passable, nothing how it has been in the past and we packed up our rooms. What we didn't realise until them was that my family members still had key 44 on them and had used it to unlock room 54, then 55, we didn't try other rooms, only ours but we were disgusted that one key was opening all locks we tried. I brought this up with reception and was met with we will have to check this , I'd offered to show fottage I'd taken but they weren't interested, we were told it was probably the case that it was actually a master key on that keyring, no real apology. After this stay and all the negative experiences we certainly will not be staying there again, the standards have dropped dramatically over the past few years.

We stayed over as we had attended a funeral wake at the hotel that day and thought it would be a treat. Whilst the staff are attentive and helpful, the hotel is lacking. We arrived at noon - left our bag with reception - and thought we'd have a light lunch. There was only one choice of soup which I couldn't have as allergic to it. I ended up having a bread roll lunch. We tried to check into our room at 3pm and took our bag up to our room. It still hadn't been cleaned and remade from the previous occupants and hadn't by 4.30pm. In the end the hotel put us in a different room. We were staying because we wanted a rest in the afternoon and to get get changed etc, but none of this we could do as the room wasn't available. The hotel staff were very apologetic, but that didn't really help. Dinner in the evening was very basic, not at all like the gallery photographs on the website. My husband ordered the trout and we thought it would be a trout fillet but it was a slice cut from a large fish. I wanted the duck breast, but there wasn't any left so I had the steak. It was served on a wooden board. The steak tasted of cleaning chemicals. The waitress checked with the chef but they didn't use chemicals on the griddle so it was assumed it was from the residue of chemicals from the dishwasher. I didn't eat it and nothing was offered to replace it. The room - a superior - was very basic and the shower was minuscule. I'm only a size 6 or 8 and I struggled. There was plenty of hot water but took a long time for the hot to run through. The breakfast was basic and lacklustre. No muesli, only fruit n fibre or cornflakes. Bread was ready sliced, not a nice granary loaf. Poor quality sausage and the bacon and the eggs - fried or scrambled were dried up looking and we had an early breakfast. There was a little fresh fruit, a sliced orange and some melon squares. It has beautiful surroundings and was clearly a splendid building.

Incompetent staff and management.....dilapidated 3 star Venue that needs a ton of money spent on it and should be downgraded to a 2 star. Avoid for your special occasion and go elsewhere where you will be looked after. If the venue had some investment and a change of management.....I'd consider the Priory...but no...not currently. Let Craig David play in the Garden and avoid this place for any event you wish to put on.
