We just completed a 3-night stay and had a somewhat pleasant experience during our stay but feel that there are many areas for improvement to enhance future traveler's experiences. For the price of the stay, we did not feel the service or facilities were up to standard. Opportunities for Improvement: 1) The food was extremely inconsistent from one meal to the next. Some meals were exceptional (the local family style dinner and egg breakfast sandwich for chimpanzee trekking were all incredible) while other meals left much to be desired (do not get the waffles for breakfast). The treat table was also not user-friendly. There were not bags to put the treats in, making it difficult to take advantage of the offerings unless you brought your own bag. 2) We found it a bit confusing to understand the included experiences at the hotel and how we might take advantage of them. We would recommend the hotel find a better way to inform guests of the experiences offered and how they might book them to get the most of their stay. Having a list in the room on an iPad was not as easy for us to understand and we feel that we missed out on some of the included experiences due to this. 3) The gym could benefit from updated and additional equipment. The equipment feels dated and there aren't as many options as one would expect from a hotel like this. 4) Staff attention to patrons could be improved. Coming from the Gorillas Nest, we felt extremely taken care of and catered to, so arriving at Nyungwe House we were expecting similar service. Unfortunately, the service fell flat. We did not feel that we were taken care of at the level we should have been for the price we paid. Little things were overlooked, especially in our rooms, like replacing food, drinks and linens. The food and beverage service were much better than the in-room service, but still felt a bit impersonal. 5) The overall experience at the hotel just felt chaotic, inconsistent and disorganized, especially compared to our stay at the Gorillas Nest. We hired a driver through the hotel during our stay at Nyungwe House and he was not very attentive or interactive. We arrived at the front of the hotel the morning for our Chimpanzee Trek at 4:45 am ready to go and had to wait a good 20 minutes for him as he was trying to get water for himself for the car while he waited on us to do the trekking. When he drove us to Kigali on the day of our departure, he drove rather erratically, swerving in and out of traffic and coming close to other cars, and we were scared many times. When we arrived back from one of our treks, we had to take our gaiters off ourselves as no one was there to help us (this is minor but just inconsistent). The management of the hotel leaves something to be desired and could really elevate the experience if there was more attention to detail paid to guests and individualized service. 6) The kitchen is very unaccommodating to meals outside of specific times. We were departing the hotel
