If you like a quiet village location in a typically Austrian hotel then this is the place for you. Oberau is a small village between Niederau and Auffach but it has a few cafes, a sports shop and a large Spar supermarket. The “Bummelbahn” noddy train is an ideal way to get around and at only 15 euros for a weekly ticket it’s a must have. The guest card you receive on arrival gives you free access to all the lifts the valley. We were in a deluxe room with a balcony, large lounge area, lcd tv,fridge and a safe, well worth the little extra it costs to upgrade. Everything worked and the room was well cleaned each day. Only one small negative was that the bath towels were a bit small and thin so if you like big fluffy towels then best bet is to take your own. The food for breakfast and dinner was of a very good standard, not fine dining but perfectly adequate. Extensive breakfast buffet with hot items two or three times a week, homemade jams, fresh fruit, several types of bread, etc. You choose your main course for dinner at breakfast from a choice of 3 which includes one veggie option. There is also a weekly barbeque, farmers buffet and dessert buffet where you can eat as much or as little as you want. There is a small wine list where you a can get a decent bottle of wine for around 22 euros, a bottled wheat beer is 3.50, all drinks were reasonably priced. A nice touch is the free packed lunch which you order the night before, very convenient and saves a lot of money. I think this only applies if you travel with Inghams. All the staff were extremely friendly and spoke perfect English, nothing was too much trouble and it created a very relaxed atmosphere. This hotel in Oberau is perfect for a peaceful holiday and somewhere when you can simply unwind and admire the scenery.
