The Pelican Beach Resort & Spa - Adults Only

An update - after 6 months, many emails, photographic evidence and independent arbitration service - they have found Jet2 to be in breach of contract for selling this as a 4 star hotel. We have been vindicated - avoid this place at all costs. Lovely island - awful hotel.

On arrival we were greeted with an effluent pipe spewing onto the pavement - this was left uncleared for the duration of our stay. The main building has as much charm as a 1970’s multi story car park! We had to wait to check in as we had an early flight, though we’re able to change in what felt like a staff locker room. Eventually we were shown to our room which was adequate at best, the bathroom was the size of a cupboard with poor lighting, rusty fittings and dirty grout and the shower drain was blocked and took an age to empty. We heard what we thought was an alarm going off but soon realised it was the air conditioning unit. We raised this with reception who were dismissive and not at all interested. They said they would get an engineer the next day - we returned from a day out to find this had not happened - reception didn’t bother to tell us. I then escalated the matter to the Jet2 Holiday helper who took over 24 hours to respond and when she did turn up she was inept and of little use - other than clearly criticising in Italian, us for complaining. We had two sleepless nights and were eventually moved to another room with a quiet air conditioning system. The overall feel of the hotel is one of tiredness - lamps blown and not changed, stains on carpets in the hallways, rusty bathroom fittings and rusty balconies. The breakfast buffet is certainly not 4 star standard with mostly tinned fruit on offer and leftover vegetables from the previous nights dinner 🤮. The only cereals available are very high sugar content pre-packed and of poor quality. The only good thing about breakfast was the coffee, once you reached the front of the long queues to get to it. The pool area is small with just six sunbeds. The garden area is quite pleasant but as guests in the main block we are not allowed to use the sunbeds, though we could pay an additional 40.00 Euros to use the hotel sunbeds on the beach. At no time during the booking process with Jet2 was this made clear. Overall we are extremely disappointed with the hotel which at best is a 3 star. The restaurant and housekeeping staff are very pleasant. The reception staff less so - and once they realised we had left a review on Trip Advisor they made no effort whatsoever. If it were my choice alone we would have flown home rather than stay in this AWFUL hotel.

Great hotel, was perfect for the quiet getaway we wanted (needed). Hotel room was great, the beach and bar. Staff couldn’t do enough to help with any problems. There are a few nice restaurants in walkable distance if you fancy it.

We stayed for a week here and the hotel was beautiful, really kind & friendly staff members! Lovely A La Carte menu, lots of options & very fresh! Breakfast was a wide variety and good coffee! The beach the hotel has as their private beach was lovely, the sun beds on the beach are free if you’re with the hotel & you get a token per person for beach towels, a lifeguard is there all the while. The sea is beautiful & crystal clear! The rooms are very modern and personally we thought they were plenty big enough, good sized wardrobe & lots of cubby spaces & hangers, also has a safe, mini fridge & tea/coffee station. The Wi-Fi is great throughout the whole hotel and restaurant, didn’t drop out at all! The rooms all have air conditioning which was perfect! Only thing I would say is the beds aren’t the comfiest & the walls are fairly thin so you can hear people in the rooms around you, chairs moving and people talking, moving around etc. Probably our own mistake not looking into it but there isn’t any entertainment or much to do in the surrounding area. This is the only thing I can say that let’s the hotel down.

Liked the staff and locality. However, the room was small and being charged for use of sunbeds on beach & not allowed to use sunbeds on hotel lawn, because they were reserved for the suites; was a gripe.

All the staff were very helpful. The place was amazing our room was spotless roomy and bright.

The hotel is practical to stay because it’s close to the airport. The hotel beach is very small but nice. The staff is friendly and helpful. The rooms are big and clean but extremely noisy. Our room was on the first floor and had no window view, only windows to the hall, so we had to keep the curtains closed. People would drag their trolleys since 5 am which was extremely loud. One can hear whatever is happening upstairs because poor isolation. One very good thing is the shower to use in the spa once you’re checked out and spent the day at the beach. That room should have a lock tho.

We booked this supposedly 4 start hotel through Jet2 who we had travelled with before. On arrival we were horrified by the tired and scruffy external appearance of the hotel. Drains in the wall were overflowing with brown slime and no attempt had been made to clear it away. The building is in poor repair with cracks all over the facade. The receptionist, Tiziana, was charming and allowed us to change in a room which seemed like a staff locker room as we were very early and couldn’t check in for several hours. We eventually checked in and were extremely disappointed with the standard of room we had been allocated. The bathroom was awful with poor lighting, mould in the shower and rusty fittings. The shower drain was blocked and took an age to empty. After a short time in the room we heard what we thought was a car alarm going off, only to then realise it was the air con unit in our room. I went to reception and raised this with them and they could not even be bothered to come to the room and listen. It was Sunday so we understood that it was unlikely they would be able to get en engineer so we accepted that we would not get any sleep and the issue would be resolved the next day - alas, it was not and they did not even have the courtesy top tel us which suggested they had absolutely no intention of doing anything about it. Other areas of the hotel were in a poor condition with blown lightbulbs and stained carpets. Eventually the ineffective rep from Jet2 came to the hotel and attempted to resolve the matter. We were offered to move to a different room for one night so we could get some sleep - but this defeats the object of checking into a hotel, unpacking and enjoying a relaxing holiday. On day 3 we were moved to another one with no noisy air con, though the bathroom was marginally better with less mould, but still a rusty soap dish. The breakfast buffet was not four star standard with tinned fruit and only high sugar processed cereals. I asked for plain oats and they looked at me as if i was crazy. Most days, as a special treat, you could have the previous nights left over vegetables with your breakfast. The only memorable thing about breakfast was the excellent coffee. We were surprised to find only a few sun beds by the pool, but assumed (wrongly) that we could use this in the garden overlooking the sea - alas not so, they were reserved for those residents in the older building . Okay, so we can use the sub beds on the beach - at an extra charge. The housekeeping staff were delightful and doing a good job with what they had to work with - it is difficult to clean somewhere that is so poorly maintained. With the exception of Tiziana the reception staff were unhelpful, disinterested and rude. We were challenged as to why we had posted a bad review? Seriously - they have absolutely no desire to look after guests and clearly only want the money. The restaurant staff were helpful and efficient. Awful hotel. Room like a shoe box and bathroom the size of a cupboard. Bathroom tiles and grout stained and generally in poor repairs. Air con sounds like an alarm going off and receptionist extremely unhelpful ‘there is nothing we can do until tomorrow’, no attempt to resolve the issue, no offer to move us to a different room and didn’t even come and listen to the noise herself. Very disappointing and that’s just day one.
