Sunset Fishermen Beach Resort Playa del Carmen - All Inclusive

The resort is an older resort and needs some updating for example in the pool area the Beach Couchons need to be replace they are a bit faded and old. The location is perfect if you enjoy walking to town its only 20 minutes to 5th avenue. They dont have elevators so just note that if you get the 3rd floor be prepared to do stairs, we didn't mind we enjoy stairs but for older folks

We have been coming go Fisherman’s for 15+ years and we love it. The people we meet are always helpful and happy. I am sure there are many more people behind that also deserve credit for everything being so nice, for example maintenance people, chefs, room service and cleaning services. From the moment you arrive and greeted by Marcial, we feel like we are home. Breakfast is always great with the variety of choices from made to order omelettes, fruits, vegetables and other traditional dishes. The lunch menu pool side is great too! The themed dinner menu is different everyday. The menus are Mexican, Spanish, Caribbean, French, etc… all amazing and have gluten free options as well. The people are the best. I am sure I have missed a few people but thank you to: Roberto, Freddy, Rigoberto, Carolina, Daniela, Daniel, Alejandra, Genero, Guillermo, Benita, Samara, Nayeli, Ingrid, Reyes, Alejandro, Anahi, Diana (concierge), Victoria. We also use the Spa on every trip for massages and/or pedicures. Thank you to Victor, Lorena, Liliana. There is a great local vendor that brings his goods… without the haggling that you experience in town. He is a part experience and part of our family after so many years, Marco! The best.

This is a small quaint hotel with lots of friendly staff! Food is varied and excellent and staff really go out of their way to please. The bar is a basic bar but very knowledgble staff like Alejandro will show you how to make typical Mexican drinks! Sports and activity staff like Azucena and Alma always encourage guests by name in all kinds of activities. They let everyone know what’s coming up and are ready to listen to feedback to improve things like add more yoga classes! I just love the ambiance and the beautiful views of the ocean from the pool or beach! Little jewel in Playacar1! Thank you for a great time Fisherman Staff!

This facility has great beaches and a nice pool area. The pool tile needs to be replaced. They need some additional umbrellas around the pool. Need to continue to update the furniture both inside and out. However, it was much improved since our Previous visit. Bartender Alejandro needs to work on his bartending skills. The drinks were lacking flavor and I don’t mean alcohol. He just skimp on everything and it was almost like drinking Flavored ice water.

Fishermens is lovely. It’s in Playacar Phase 1. It’s small and casual and its setting right on the beach cannot be bettered. However, the entertainment has been cut back. There is no longer a welcome buffet party, the sailing has been cut back to just 2 days a week and you have to be accompanied now, even if you are an experienced sailor. In addition, they have introduced a guests resort fee. So you pay more for less! It wasn’t obvious what you get for the resort fee. I like Fishermens but I would say its current management has reduced value for money for its guests. We tried the margaritas from their pool snack bar and they weren’t great. We couldn’t taste the tequila. My overall view is Fishermens is still good but has lost its edge that made it even more special.

We stayed at Sunset Fisherman’s in February of 2024. Great experience. We loved being walking distance from the town and being right on an amazing beach. The food was amazing and the staff was outstanding special appreciated the help from Samara, Daniel, Yulisa, Guillermo, Genaro, Rigoberto, Raul and Noe! Great place!

The resort itself is small, quaint, well-kept, and lovely, however we rented a privately owned condo there (341) through a rental agency and it was a terrible experience. The air conditioning did not work properly, the furniture was shabby and filthy, the sliding glass door did not lock, walls were dirty, one burner on the stove was missing and oven was so dirty and in disrepair that we wouldn't use it. The toilet seat was broken off of the stool, the ceiling in the kitchen was peeling, curtains were rotting, flower box on the balcony was filled with dried up ****s and "patio"chairs were OLD sun-rotted plastic kitchen chairs. In all fairness the owner did try to address the issues with the door lock and the AC, but we got tired of workers in the condo and after two days we decided to just deal with it. I would never stay in this unit again, and caution others to check very carefully that work has been done on it before agreeing to rent it. It ruined our vacation.

While Sunset Fishermen is not new to us (we have been members for more than 20 years), our visit in June 2023 was special. Marcial Canul always recognizes us as soon as we arrive from the airport. His memory and quality of costumer service are out of this world. Thank you Marcial for being the friend we are always looking forward to seeing as soon as we get to our home away from home in Playa del Carmen. One of us has strict dietary restrictions, which makes it challenging eating out. Well, as soon as Michelle Lucio, the Member Services Manager informed Kevin Aguilar, the Food & Beverages Manager right on the day of our arrival about our dietary needs, he ensured that alternatives from the menu were offered to us meeting our eating requirements. Every time we were greeted at our table by the most friendly and professional team of servers. Noé, Guillermo, and Samara were always ready to suggest the most delicious meals and beverages and offer alternatives from the themed-menu that changed every day, while accommodating our restrictive regime. Every morning and evening, any of the outstanding team of cooks: Josué, Prudencia, or Vanessa would craft an incredible edible experience that indulged our senses. Chef José Adamaro made sure everything was safe for us and that every single detail was covered for us to enjoy a great culinary experience. One of us happened to celebrate their birthday during our visit at Sunset Fishermen. The whole team went above and beyond to organize a memorable surprise dinner party at our table. Even a special cake was baked so that all of us could enjoy it! The whole team participated singing the Mexican birthday song, “Las mañanitas.¨ It felt like a family party… our Sunset Fishermen family. During the day, every time we relaxed by and in the pool, Wendy González and Víctor Chi, the stellar bartenders, took care of our hydration levels preparing delicious and refreshing libations, including alcohol free ones! Our vacation could not be completed without the mandated visit to the spa. The entire team of masseurs and masseuses truly makes all tension vanish and the combination with aromatherapy and the soothing music complements a deep relaxing experience. We are grateful to the Sunset Fishermen family for providing extraordinary quality service. We can’t wait for our visit this year! See you soon!

We have been coming to Fisherman ‘s village with family for many years. Our kids were very small when we first started coming and now as adults they still love coming here with us. The staff is definitely the best thing about this place. Marcial is the first person we see and he is wonderful. Michelle is always available for questions and any help we need. Olivia from house keeping is so warm and caring and patient with my poor Spanish. Daniela and Azucena are great with the activities department. The location of the resort can’t be beat with its situation on a beautiful beach and in the lovely community of Playacar. Unfortunately, many of the changes we have seen haven’t been for the better. We really miss the Sunday welcome parties that used to help the guests meet each other and were so much fun. In the past, European plan meant that you could have breakfast and one other meal per day and was much more affordable. The all inclusive price now is ridiculous especially for someone who doesn’t drink. I also don’t understand why the owners don’t provide more chairs and umbrellas/ cabanas on the beach. There are not enough during high season and It puts guests at odds with each other and leads some guests to being very unpleasant . We still love our Fisherman’s family and will continue to bring our family here, we just hope that Sunset Group will continue to keep the resort functioning well and take care of their wonderful staff.
