We visited the Sheraton Kauai Resort for our 30th wedding anniversary, and unfortunately, were fairly disappointed in the hotel. The rooms are just OK and the hotel is very dated, other than the reception area and open air lobby. They don't ever seem to have enough people at the check in desk, although the person who checked us in on Thursday night was very lovely and friendly. Other times we had to go to the front desk there were long lines as they only had one person working. One person who stood out for us was Michael, one of the bellman. He reminded us af a mature Lou Diamond Phillips, so we called him Lou the entire stay and he was very good-natured about it. He was great about recommending breakfast and lunch places (Pukas, Brennekes, Wood FIre Pizza) and other places of interest (Poipu Beach at sunset to see the seals and turtles!). Lou was definitely the most helpful person we encountered at the Sheraton! We used their concierge to book a number of activities (one almost every day we visited - a total of 8 days), and they did a great job initially, but since the weather was cloudy/rainy many of the days, when we asked them to switch things around, they were not good at following up and communicating with us. I was so frustrated that I asked to speak to the concierge manager, "J" for short, and she basically said that our account was updated with lots of notes and our changes were the reason for the issues. I would not recommend using them, especially if you think you might make any changes to your itinerary. They did book us for an ATV tour (it was rainy and fairly cool that day, but we went anyway), golf at Poipu Bay (our tee time was changed to the correct day, but our friends tee times wasn't changed; luckily I called the resort and figured that out and had it changed myself), ziplining (which had to be cancelled due to the weather issues), a catamaran/scuba 5 hour trip ( Holo Holo charters - Great crew and captain, great views of the Napali coast, but the snorkeling was the worst I've ever done - very few fish, lots of rocks, no color, very disappointing). They also helped us book multiple dinner reservations, which our friend researched and selected, and I would highly recommend Beach House, Keoki's and Tidepools. The restaurants at the Sheraton Kauai were not great, at least the one option open during our stay. Lava's is great for poolside drinks, but their dinner entrees were not good (the chicken kung pao was like eating petrified chunks of burned chicken and the burger comes with a strange tasting sauce). Rumfire was closed our entire visit. The coffee shop was the culinary highlight, and the staff there is wonderful! We visited two other resorts nearby during our stay, and i would recommend considering them if you visit. The Hyatt is BEAUTIFUL, so if your budget can afford it, stay there. The other less expensive option would be the Koloa resort - great spa, beautiful pool and great food! They don't h
