The hotel is a lovely restored palace. The room was large, and the bed was comfortable. The staff at the reception were welcoming and cheery. The food in the hotel was very good - there were a lot of options at breakfast, and the homemade jams were lovely. There were, however, some minuses. Our room only had a tub. Although there was a shower head, it meant that water sprayed all over the bathroom, and there was not rail to help get out of the tub. This is always a minus for us in a hotel. In addition, the room was very warm. We couldn't figure out how to turn off the heat, so we left our window open to cool it down. The problem is that the hotel is next to a fallow dear farm and it was the season where the animals are in heat. So, we didn't get a lot of sleep. We used the spa. The sauna and steam room were great. The ambiance of the spa is lovely. But we were disappointed that the jacuzzi was not hot. The water was tepid at best. It is a nice jacuzzi, but having warmer water would have made the experience more pleasant. The restaurant was an enigma for us. On the one hand good food and friendly service. The waiters were chatty and very nice. However, service was not attentive and a bit forgetful considering that there were so few guests there when we were there. The prices in the restaurant are high, so we would expect something a bit better. A good hotel that needs to attend to some issues. It is our mistake that we didn't ask if there was a room was a shower - but we had paid for a certain type of room and didn't feel that it was worth the fuss.
