In short, hotel refused to refund our room after a terrible experience at the hotel and later interactions with the manager. Hotel is dated with deferred maintenance and tattered furniture.
We checked in late in the evening and a guest was having a medical emergency. We were put in a room only a few doors away from the incident. The EMTs left without anyone in the ambulance so we assumed the issue has resolved itself and got our children ready for bed. However, there was still a heavy law enforcement presence and we overheard them state the guest had died. The elevator was broken and our room was near the stairs. There was a lot of foot traffic and noise. We decided it wouldn’t be a restful night and didn’t want to scare our children so we left for a different hotel.
Management refused to partially refund our stay on the ground we “left on our own free will” and used the shower. The manager was extremely rude and could not understand why we wouldn’t want to stay with our kids near a room with a dead body, law enforcement, coroner, ect. It was a very upsetting experience overall.
Even without the incident, it didn’t take long to see that the hotel had been neglected. The stairwells and halls were dirty and our rooms furniture was tattered.
