Hotel Borromeo

We stayed at Hotel Borromeo for 10 nights on a family vacation (2 adults, 2 kids). We were in a family suite (two-person bed plus two twin beds in a large room). Housekeeping came by daily. The hotel’s web site did not provide a way to reserve without advance payment of the whole reservation, although that can be done at substantially higher rates through sites like ***********. We took a gamble on pre-paying and it worked for us, so we can’t speak to the feasibility of getting money back on cancellation. The room rate booked through the hotel also includes some sort of travel insurance (which again we didn’t need to try to use). Staff were very responsive by email when we had a question about payment right after booking. Our room (no. 212) was tastefully decorated with one small window looking out over a courtyard. Curtains and shutters were very good at keeping out light. Some other rooms apparently do not have windows, which could be problematic as there were several few-minute power outages during our stay (we presume due to excess load on Rome’s electrical grid during the heat wave). Other reviews have noted that the Metro line runs right under the hotel. We heard it occasionally, but on the 2nd floor it was barely noticeable over the air conditioner. Our room was pretty large considering this is a downtown hotel in a major European tourist city. Amenities include a fridge (it didn’t cool very well) and small tv. There are wall outlets by each bed so we had no problems keeping all our devices charged. Bathroom has a bathtub with a handheld shower head. Only liquid soap was provided (in dispensers), had to use our own shampoo and conditioner. AC works efficiently but doesn’t reach into the bathroom very well. A full length mirror in the hotel room was very helpful for checking our outfits. Front desk staff were very kind and friendly and our 9 year old especially had a great rapport with one of them. They gave both of our kids souvenir keys with the hotel name on them. The lobby is elegant and relaxing, with a tv (usually showing news), vending machine and a tiny bar (not sure of its hours). We found one of the best features of the hotel to be the free breakfast provided on the rooftop terrace. Both indoor and outdoor tables are available with nice views of the street. There is an assortment of pastries, sliced meats, yogurt, cereal, eggs and juices as well as an espresso machine. The hotel location is excellent: only a 10 minute walk from Termini station in one direction, and just a bit further to major attractions (Colosseum, Forum) in the other. Via Cavour and the parallel Via Urbana have a number of good restaurants, and there are more a few minutes’ walk away near Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore, itself a major tourist attraction.

We stayed in this hotel for a week and loved every minute of it. The staff GIgi , Lorenzo and Virgilio were very hospitable , helpful , humble and friendly. Espresso ,croissant and cake whilst we were checking in. Room was spacious for a family of four . Toilets cleaned regularly and any query (if any) resolved by these guys straightaway. Staff were very kind and gave us good tips about travel and food and some quick language tips . They really made the trip 5 star. Colosseum is around the corner , you can literally see it on your left from the first traffic lights if you turn right coming out of the hotel. Most of the attractions are 15 to 20 minutes walk and Termini train station is 10 to 15 minutes walk. We will definitely come back and stay here we felt so much comfortable and looked after.

Great location for seeing the sights in Rome. Staff at reception were very helpful and pleasant. They gave good directions and told us where to get tickets for all the places we wanted to go. The breakfast was very good and the staff were also very helpful ahe pleasant. Definitely would go back to this hotel . Thank you for a great stay Ger Ireland

Location of the hotel is great for walking to all of the major sights. Hotel staff friendly and informative. The rooms are dated and a little shabby around the edges. Hardly any sockets available so bring a long extension lead fur charging anything. Beds very small but relatively comfortable. TV has no English channels but the wifi strength is decent if you bring your own stick for Netflix etc. The hotel is situated on top of the metro line and is very noisy everytime a train passes. The rooms physically rattle every train. Trains stop around midnight and resume around 6am. Plus side is the station is very close to get to Vatican City etc. Breakfast was good, pastries are incredibly and the breakfast staff are attentive. Supermarket around 100m walk. Overall a reasonable choice for Rome sightseeing if a little noisy.

Myself, a colleague and eight high school students visited Italy the 21st of June. The accommodations are perfect for travelers or tourist with ease of seeing the sights. The breakfast area is lovely with a great staff. When we had questions or needs they were able to help us right away.

Il personale è cordiale ma un po’ lento nella fase di check-in e check-out. La colazione non ci è piaciuta in termini di qualità dei prodotti. L‘hotel ha bisogno di una bella ristrutturazione. Purtroppo le strade di Roma dopo il weekend diventano una discarica a cielo aperto.

Très bien situé avec bus et métro à proximité, dans rue très passante mais triple vitrage très efficace ! Personnel ADORABLE et aux petits soins avec nous, un vrai bonheur de ce côté-là. Cela dit, le petit-déjeuner est basique, et ne vous attendez pas à du moderne ou du neuf pour la chambre. Seche cheveux ancestral avec du Scotch .. Le frigo ne fait pas du froid mais du chaud, et donc bien sûr pas de bouteille d'eau offerte (à près de 400 euros la nuit c'est moyen..). Mais un 4 étoiles pour le personnel, je le redis car ils le méritent vraiment..

Camera molto comoda, personale gentilissimo e super terrazza per la colazione. I letti sono molto comodi, bagno grande con una mega doccia. La colazione è molto variegata, dal dolce al salato. Una bella esperienza

Wir waren 4 Nächte hier und waren sehr zufrieden. Die Lage ist sehr zentral aber auch die Metrostation ist nicht weit weg. Das Personal ( vorallem Lorenzo) waren sehr hilfsbereit. Die Zimmer sind sauber und ea hat alles was man braucht. Frühstück war auch sehr gut. Einziger Nachteil: es ist sehr ringhörig. Trotzdem sehr zu empfehlen!
