Not sure where to start with this one.... I will start with the positives - the place is remarkably cheap, even at short notice. The new managers, who had only been there a week were incredibly nice, knowledgeable and helpful. So - the negatives. The place is very run down. It has the impression of a wonderful hotel from the past, but it has clearly not been maintained properly and was now rather worn looking and dilapidated. The room was superficially clean but there were some issues: - No curtains and the fixed blind did not work. - When I went to bed, I am not convinced that the sheets had been changed from the previous occupant. I may be wrong here, but they looked creased and slept in and there were some 'stains' that were consistent with a naked person sitting down on the sheet. - The bathroom was nice, but the shower had very little power, exerting only drips of water and the toilet brush looked like it had been very well used [if you know what I mean]. - There was an electrical socket that was broken and live wires were visible. - The restaurant and bar was closed and it not appear that they will ever be open again. In conclusion, I am glad that I was on my own. I booked this at the last minute due to a relative being admitted to a nearby hospital. I know that if I brought my family there, my wife would have made me move to another hotel. I am not sure if this hotel is salvageable and if it is, it will need a massive investment to get back on track. I fear that it will end up being some kind of hostel, or more likely, used for temporary social housing. I for one hope that the new managers proactively improve this once fine establishment.
