We went for afternoon tea and it was disappointing. The main entrance to the hotel is lovely and we were greeted warmly. Within a few moments one of the waiting staff showed us to our table which was in a room with no one else in and it didn’t feel like a dining room at all. There was no music and it all felt very strange. Within a few minutes the waitress greeted us and we ordered our tea. The tea came swiftly. It wasn’t loose leaf tea, as advertised, but tea bags and there weren’t any pretty tea cups, as advertised but the usual hotel white crockery. After about 20-25 mins our afternoon tea arrived, I did get the feeling they weren’t expecting us, even though we had to book two days in advance. The waitress was super lovely and as were other members of staff. We started eating the sandwiches but there was one we couldn’t work out what it was, we mentioned this to the waitress who took it off to the chef. When she bought it back she said the chef said that it was a thin layer of egg mayonnaise ! We explained that we had eaten the egg mayonnaise so it couldn’t be that ! She did offer more sandwiches or scones but we declined. The rest of the tea was ok. The scones were very crispy and a bit heavy and the small cakes were ok. Unfortunately we were disappointed with the whole experience. For £35 per person plus 10% service charge. we were expecting it to be so much better.
