About 5 kilometers before reaching the apartment there is a channel that connects the Mediterranean Sea with the Mar Menor, which is crossed by the main road by means of a drawbridge, the Estacio bridge. At certain times throughout the day the bridge is raised to let sailing boats through, thereby interrupting road traffic for 15 minutes. Next to this canal is the freely accessible Tomás Maestre marina, where you can see hundreds of boats and eat at any of its dozens of restaurants.
50 km away, well connected by bus, is Cartagena (214,000 inhabitants), the old Cartago Nova.
