Hotel El Convento

Definitely the best place you can stay within the old san juan.

Stayed in a superior queen room. Room was clean. Bed was comfortable. Room had a beautiful view of the water and cruise boats coming in and out of the harbor. It also has really good soundproofing. There was a Table with two chairs, two night stands, lounge chair with ottoman, dresser with four very small drawers, refrigerator, espresso machine, safe, hairdryer, closet with lots of storage space and a completely updated bathroom with built in shampoo, body wash, conditioner and lotion dispenser. There were also fresh flowers and plenty of towels. Housekeeping really does a great job but they do come very early in the morning. Front desk was very friendly and efficient. Morning coffee was good and wine and cheese from 5-6 each day was fun. Hot tub is cold and the pool is small. Restaurants were all bad. Including the ones listed on their recommendations letter. Super Max grocery store is three blocks away with beer, wine, liquor and everything else you need on vacation. Best food we had was at La princess and at Carli’s. Had fun at Nono.

Great experience! Very pretty hotel. Staff was warm and welcoming. Free bottles of water for our entire stay. Wine and cheese events every day for free.

it was a beautiful building, well converted into rooms. Our room was somewhat hot, and we were unable to adjust the A/C beyond what it was set at. Our particular room was also very dark, with just one window

Hotel El Convento is a great facility. We often stay at former Convents in Portugal and Spain and this one did not disappoint. We went there to see Old San Juan. The problem is that so did 6 kazillion cruise ship passengers. the restaurant was abysmal. both the service and the food. Servers were nice and felt bad for them - they were terribly understaffed and the 2 on duty were running, but just could not keep up. Food - ordered Eggs Benedict at breakfast and it came out cold. Which didn't really matter since the English Muffin was not toasted or broiled - just cut in half with a cold egg on top.

Perfect location! The hotel was clean, the staff was friendly, and the wine reception was a nice surprise!

We had wanted to stay at this boutique hotel in the heart of old San Juan since we first saw it about 6 years ago on a prior trip. It looks beautiful from the outside, and is beautiful on the inside. We did have issues: First, we arrived on a Saturday evening. There was a wedding reception and no available parking. They explained the parking is not their's and that all guests have to find parking on their own. This should be highlighted. Second, there were no bellhops. I had to carry all our stuff in myself like it was at a motor lodge. Related to this was that about 30 people from the wedding reception were blocking the entrance and blowing cigar and cigarette smoke. Third, the front desk was across the hall from the wedding reception. The music was so loud I had to write notes with staff to check in. Fourth, there was no running water in our room. A call to the front desk found they were working on it but no estimate for repair time. That would have been something nice to know while I was checking in. Fortunately, it did come back on in about 30 minutes. Fifth, the wedding reception music could easily and loudly be heard in my 5th floor room until about 2AM, leaving us with little to no sleep on our first night. Also, the room decor being contemporary and modern, did not match the romantic and colonial look of the rest of the hotel. Things did get better, but that first night we were seriously thinking of leaving and going elsewhere.
