Super 8 by Wyndham Spencer

During this time of year the Clay County Fair is going on and there just is not a lot of room options in this area so in hind site you kind of feel like you really got stung for a high price on a mediocre room.

I won’t recommend this place. From the entrance, you can tell it hast been cleaned in months. You can see dust and crumbs on the furniture and floor. It smells terrible, either in the reception and in the room we were assigned. Even it was very late at night, we couldn’t handle it and had to cancel the reservation. We went to the only place that wasn’t sold out. This place- motel - was way a better place where we felt safe.

Solid room for the price but not specific. It was neat and clean and neat the edge of town. Good bed. They were gracious and let me check out really late. Breakfast was pastries and not much choice but they didn’t promise more either.

Stayed there 9.16.22 during the Clay County Fair. Carpet was dingy, leftover food in the fridge, and a big pile of hair on the bathroom floor. We knew there were no other rooms in town, so told the desk person, who said he would let the manager know. Room was $128, jacked up for the Fair. No change to the room when we returned at the end of the night. Virtually no sleep because of the room condition. Up early to get out of there and forget it. No hot water for the shower. Asked the desk person about the policy and explained we didn’t expect a 5 star resort and instead just a clean, affordable room. She said she would let the manager know. Contacted corporate Wyndham and Super 8, so will see what happens. I rarely make complaints or leave negative reviews unless it’s really bad. etc. and have stayed in some low cost hotels. This one was the worst by far. Keep driving, camp, whatever.

We had stayed here in 2021 and thought it was nice. This year, though, was not the same. Upon walking into the hotel lobby, there was a rug on the floor that was in rough shape. There were crumbs on the breakfast counter. The receptionist looked like he had just woke up. He looked unprofessional. We got to our room and the AC was on full blast at 65 so it was freezing. We turned it off and surveyed the room. You could see where they didn't vacuum. There were crumbs along the wall and in between furniture. After a long drive, we all needed to use the restroom. I couldn't believe it when my husband informed me there wasn't a stitch of toilet paper. I've never in my life checked into a room and there wasn't TP and a spare ready. There was none on the roll and none on the tank. Even the tissue box was empty! I immediately went back downstairs to ask for TP. He apologized and gave us a roll. The beds appeared clean and they were comfy. The tub had a long black hair in it, but was clean otherwise. The next morning, we were expecting a decent breakfast. When it opened at 7, there was nothing there. My mother pushed the bell to call someone and the guy came from the back, looking like he had just woke up. He also acted like he was mad we were bothering him. He set out some muffins and cereal. We enjoyed the milk, but the muffins were terrible. My hubby had some raisin cereal and, upon first crank, out came a mix of raisin cereal and Cheerios. The juice was canned, which was disappointing. When we checked out, we heard another guest complaining that they had been there for 3 days and no one had cleaned their room, brought them towels, or given them TP. This hotel seems to need an overhaul on staff, but I'm sure that's not easy these days. We did like the bright blue walls and the price. It just needs some TLC and some customer service.

Carpet outside our bathroom was wet. Sheets on bed were not large enough to cover bed. We called and they brought larger sheets but we had to put them on. Our facial tissue box was empty and we told person who brought sheets and he never came back with a new box. I took the empty box to the front desk and employee went to get more and came back and said "I guess we don't have any more." Breakfast was very minimal: Coffee, yogurt, packaged muffins and dry cereal, only Cheerios mixed with some left over corn flakes. Back door had no lock and could be entered 24 hours a day with now key so not secure. Apparently lack of good management.
