Sporting Lodge Inn Middlesbrough

The staff were very friendly and the bar area was nice. But the rooms stunk, it was outdated and scruffy. The room were freezing as the radiators didn’t come on, after playing with them for ages. The whole place just need a revamp. Will not stay again.

We were staying at the lodge overnight following a funeral that day. Whilst the room was decent for the money we paid, we experienced many problems. The pub next door is connected to the hotel with no means of stopping anyone who isn't a guest from entering. We had women screaming down the corridor, talking loudly in all hours of the morning with no consideration to others. And in the morning around 8.15 outside our room was the housekeeping cupboard where we assumed the housekeepers has their morning meeting as we heard everything that was said and could hearing all the banging around of their trolleys. Check out wasn't untill 11am. Then at 9.20am they knocked on our door and were shocked when we answered... We then left 10 mins later with all our stuff to a housekeeper asking us if we were leaving now. Overall there is no consideration for guests, the walls are paper thin and avoid room 264 unless you want to be a part of the daily housekeeping meeting.

I booked this stay last minute as I had to fly over from Belfast due to a family illness. The check-in process was easy and efficient. However, upon arrival, I found that I had been allocated a Twin room despite requesting a Double. Reception promptly resolved this and moved me to a Double room. The room itself was spacious and clean, with an extremely comfortable bed. Unfortunately, I encountered a small issue with the cold water not working in the bath. Since I also had a shower, this wasn’t a major inconvenience, so I only mentioned it upon departure as my mind was occupied with more pressing matters. One thing that disappointed me was the lack of toiletries. Only an all-in-one soap was provided, which severely dried out my skin. Given the short notice of my trip, I hadn’t packed shampoo, conditioner, or moisturizer. As a sporting lodge with spa facilities, I expected better amenities, including decent shampoo and conditioner. I had breakfast at the hotel one morning and was disappointed with the offerings. However, when I requested an omelette, it was made fresh for me, which was a nice touch. On a positive note, the housekeeping team did a marvellous job. After some very long days, I always returned to a refreshed room. A major issue during my stay was the key card system. Every night when I returned, sometimes late in the evening, my key card had stopped working and I had to walk back to reception to have it recut. This happened every night during my four-night stay. Overall, I found the hotel clean and comfortable, which are always my priorities. If I stay again, I would definitely bring my own toiletries and skip the breakfast, as I don’t find it worth the money. I would also hope the key card issues are resolved. Due to the nature of my stay, I didn’t use the spa facilities, but I would like to utilize them next time.

Thanks to everyone at the hotel for a great job... The rooms were fantastic the cleaners are top class.. reception staff couldn't be nicer and Lisa and all the staff behind the bar couldn't be faulted top class service all round.. thanks again for having me.

Adequate hotel for business trips. My room was clean, some of my colleagues weren't so lucky. Decent bar and restaurant for which were reasonably priced. Good gym and pool facilities for the use of residents. Would stay again for work but I wouldn't bring my wife here for a weekend away.

I stayed here during the week, I couldn’t fault anything. The gym & spa were immaculate and the staff were so friendly. I visited the Old Poste House on the evening for dinner which was fast service and lovely food. I would definitely be staying again.

Check in needed photo ID - think this can only be because they get a lot of trouble. Rude staff - stared at our table all evening. Dreadful food - ordered burger for lunch, not sure it had ever come from a cow. Beef for evening meal - chewy and tasteless, yellowing soggy broccoli. Breakfast in the morning was not much better - couldn't cut the bacon and sausage was like the burger, cheapest you could buy wholesale. Wine selection was awful. Building itself looks rundown as does the general clientele. Strong smell of ****.

very poor place to stay, run down, infested with bugs, poo on the floor of the room. management clearly not takin responsibility based on some of the very disturbing reviews on here being answered in a disgusting manner. i feel this is a smash and grab money operation. quite happy to let ppl stay, take their money then not worry about what the stay was like. WAKE UP

Good value for money for a work trip. Food OK but Breakfast was excellent. Rooms relatively small but well equipped with the usuals and the room was quiet.Staff were lovely, clientele were mostly working away from home and the bar was quite lively. Didn’t have chance to use the gym or pool. Not a great phone signal on EE and the hotel internet was someone over used in the early evening. Would use again if I was in the area
