"What a blast I had here!!! I only stayed for one night and now I wish I had stayed longer. It was a Friday so Rio, the owner, organizes a night of games at the public gymnasium for teenagers (who although growing up already have the strength of super-powered samurais) and whoever else wants to participate. I haven't run and wake up with so many bruises since high school! It was really cool how everyone is quick to set the props for each game, we played 4 or 5 games in one hour!!!! It felt like a much longer time, everyone gave their best presence and participation all the time! It seems the other nights he takes everyone for a walk to see the stars, and Tuesdays there's also volleyball. Anyways, he is pretty proactive and creative , so I'm sure there's many variations and possibilities! The living room is very pretty, the sofas super comfortable and the view gorgeous! The bed was very hard :/ this was the only big issue for me. The onsen is so cozy, the water super smooth and instrumental music playing. Delicious! The conditioner smells great! I was a bit worried that they had too many rules, because when I contacted they informed about the need to leave the house everyday from 10 until 16. And that the eating time was very specific: 7:20 in the morning and 7 at night... So I was worried they would be too strict...but there's no need to join the food. I had breakfast and it felt like it would be at the communal dinning of beauxbatons, everyone sitting closeby with identical very beautifully presented meals that come in many quantity but small portions. It is not my jam, but for sure it is special! Some informations could be a bit more clear because they are a bit slow responding. For example they have a pick up time in front of the army at 6pm. I asked info for an amazing lady at the Art Center inside the station, Chika, and she called them. She ended up taking me herself and was the best company I could have found! She is an artist, we went to the supermarket and had great conversation! I recommend going to the art center to say hi to Chika! Lots of love, thank youuu Mountain Mamas!!!"

"This hot spring inn is really superb, five detached houses have semi-open-air private baths (real spring water), clean and tidy needless to say, the key is humanity! The bossさん and two female staff are very nice, know dd English. One-night-two is family feel, his fried chicken is delicious. Call the hostel the day before check-in and they will come to the station to drive you and only send you back to the station when you leave. Check-in before 5pm, check-out at 10am. Already missed, will be back again!"

"Love their open air onsen and the location is just opposite to the train station. If u wish to stay at Yufuin, this place is a good choice with the amount of money they charge for a night as the price of the hotel in Yufuin if relatively more expensive than Beppu. The room is abit dark, during my stay one of the lights is not functioning, but I still think it worth the price and I decided to extend another night here after I checked in."

"The hostess of this B&B is a very neat and tidy lady. She even cleaned our luggage wheels for us and carried our bags upstairs, then reminded me specifically about trash sorting. I was quite diligent about sorting my trash during my two-night stay, which was fine since I'm also very particular about it. Due to the language barrier, on the first night, I went to use the private hot spring and accidentally wore my shoes inside the small cabin. I'll definitely be more careful next time! This B&B is quite clean, and I'd probably stay here again on my next visit!"

"This guesthouse has a story to tell in every corner, retaining some of its original Japanese style. The environment is quiet and clean. The evening hot spring bath is by reservation for one hour per group, allowing couples to enjoy a private bath together. A thorough introduction is provided before check-in. The owner is friendly and beautiful 🥰. Breakfast is a traditional breakfast (the rice is superb). I highly recommend allowing time to fully experience and appreciate every detail. Although the location is a bit far from the station (a 15-minute walk), I recommend taking a taxi from the station to the guesthouse. There's a luggage delivery service to the station upon check-out, so you don't need to rush to pick it up. You can pick up your luggage when you catch the train (luggage storage costs about 600-800 yen). You can easily stroll around Yufuin, enjoying the clean air and streets. If I had to point out a downside, it would be the noticeable dampness of the tatami mats, probably because it's near a mountain and quite humid. Also, being a guesthouse, they don't offer any services after 9 PM. We arrived very late and didn't have time to buy anything before checking in. There are no convenience stores nearby, and the guesthouse doesn't have vending machines selling food. But as long as you don't arrive right on time like we did, you won't have this problem. 🙂"

"The hostess was very kind and the room was nice and clean. The only downside was that the bathroom was outside the room, but I actually liked it! It feels like I'm visiting my grandmother's house in Japan, and the breakfast is prepared neatly and carefully, and it's delicious! It's not far from the bus stop or Yufuin Station."

"MODA gave me a great experience. I love the quietness of the hotel, it’s zen. The room is comfortable and well equipped. The staff were kind and welcoming. Love the welcoming drinks session, free flow for all drinks. The food was great as well. A very relaxing atmosphere. Will definitely recommend friends to MODA. Only downside was the location is a bit hard to find, but once you know where, it’s alright."

"It was already 4:30 pm when we entered Yufuin on the first day. The owner had already turned on the air conditioner in our room and provided instructions on how to use the hot springs. He was afraid that we would not be able to visit the attractions before they closed, so he drove us to the fairytale town. Although it was closed in the end, we were familiar with the route.
