The River Cabin was built in the early 1950's by Elliot Roosevelt for his mother Eleanor Roosevelt who was a frequent visitor. This large cabin has a full kitchen with cookware, dinnerware and flatware, a dining area and separate living area. The cabin has one separate bedroom with two queen beds, a dresser, a closet and direct access to a bathroom. There is another queen bed that is part of the living area that has a dresser, a closet and its own entrance to/from outside and there is a door between the living area and the kitchen that can be closed for privacy. All bed linens are provided including pillows. There are two full baths with bath soap and towels. Direct TV and WiFi are also provided. You'll enjoy the outdoor patio with seating and outdoor charcoal grill with picnic tables. We offer all the comforts of home for your vacation stay. This 2-bedroom, 1-bath 1500 sq. ft. lower-level guest suite, offers an additional sleeping area with a queen-sized futon and full kitchen along with a washer and dryer and private, garden level patio entrance with grill, table/chairs, and conversation area. Centrally located in Meeker, you have a 4-block, 5 minute walk to the downtown area along with a beautiful view of the White River Valley and surrounding mountains.This comfortable space is in the lower level of a recently built home with the owners occupying the main floor. One bedroom contains a king-sized bed, the second bedroom has 2 queen-sized beds. There is a sleeping area with a queen-sized futon and great view of the washer and dryer. A room divider curtain separates this space for privacy. The kitchen is fully self contained and the bathroom has a shower/tub combo. The property is locked at all times from the main residence while guests are inhouse. There is no sharing of space. There is, however, a small office but it is locked to the guest suite and accessible only by the owners through a separate, exterior door.Guests can come and go through a private entrance, off the street, that has an electronic keypad. Guests are limited to the lower level patio only. There is plenty of parking along both sides of the street. There are retaining walls on the property to which guests, especially children, are strictly prohibited from accessing as this is outside the guest use area. Other things to note:With in-floor heating, the temperature will be maintained between 68 and 72 degrees in the winter and off in the summer, providing a cool, comfortable atmosphere. A recently added electric fireplace adds a bit of ambience and is not the primary heat source. There are also a Blueair air purifier, 2 tower fan/heaters along with USB personal fans in each bedroom. We are kid friendly and have a pack-n-play for little ones. While we are kid-friendly, parents are responsible for their child's safety. No smoking, vaping, e-cigarettes, or illegal substances are allowed on the premises.The guest suite can comfortably accommodate 4 adults and a couple of children. Extra guest fees will apply to guests 13 years of age and older. There will also be an additional charge for extra linens that are requested for your stay. Processing of fish, fowl, and wild game is strictly prohibited in and on the property. It should be noted that passing cars are noticeable below the cabin on the road, but you do not have any direct neighbors. Generally, evenings are pretty quiet and weekends often bring more fellow adventurers to the area. With that said, wildlife is frequent in the meadows near the river in front of the cabin. There are resident bald eagles nested nearby and elk particularly enjoy the access to the river March-June.The driveway is about 80 yards with a widened area at the top in front of the cabin for parking. Two vehicles can easily be parked at the top but must be done strategically to allow for turning around. There is room for three vehicles but turning around becomes an issue backing down the driveway is an option.WINTER - 4WD or AWD is recommended November-March. Colorado receives quite a bit of snow during this time and generally 4WD or AWD is recommended when traveling in the mountains. Front-wheel drive vehicles with good snow tires will likely be okay during this time but caution should be used. The driveway can become snow-packed, icy, and/or muddy during this time of year. Some guests without 4WD choose to park at the bottom of the driveway and walk up the 80 yds to the cabin. County Road 8 is plowed and maintained year-round.TRAILERS - Small one or two-place trailers are okay to pull up the driveway if you are comfortable backing it down or able to turn the trailer around by hand. Additional parking for trailers and pasture for horses is available on private property just a couple minutes up the road. Please let me know if this is needed.During the winter, access to the high country is limited unless you plan to snowmobile. Driving access to the Flat Tops Wilderness typically ends in November and begins again in May. Hiking in the winter is generally not possible and many of the trailheads are not accessible since the roads leading to them are not plowed.
