"I was surprised by the depth of cleanliness... the exhaust in the toilet looks sparkling clean. Usually, most hotels missed that spot. Staff are helpful even with the language barrier we got to communicate. Though the room's decor a bit dated, the important items such as air-conditioning and hairdryer are good (look new) I suppose if i really need to say something negative, it's the high step to get ibu the toilet/shower room. Though they did pit a handle at the door to help you get up n down the high step"

"This place really surprised me! I initially booked a room for one night through Trip. Since I couldn't book for a single person, I booked for two. Then I decided I wanted to stay two nights instead of one, but Trip wouldn't let me change the reservation because it was a special rate. So I decided to sort it out with the hotel, and even considered booking a second night at a different hotel if this one couldn't accommodate me. When I arrived, they told me I could definitely keep the same room for two nights, but I'd have to pay for the second night the next day. The next day, I went to pay for the second night, and they asked if I wanted to buy breakfast for 1800 yen. I said yes. They charged me the 1800 yen, and when I asked to pay for the room as well, they said I didn't need to, because I had already paid for a two-person stay for the previous night. So, in the end, I got two nights for a pretty reasonable price. On top of that, the service has been exceptionally friendly. The location is right next to Takachiho Gorge. By the way, don't try to go there by bike; it's almost a 100-meter vertical drop behind the hotel! Someone complained here that the restaurants are too far away and you need a car to get to them. The closest ones are just a few hundred meters away. So, a person of normal fitness can easily walk to eat, unless they've booked dinner at the hotel restaurant. You can also order room service in the evening (picked up from reception). I had curry. The portion was so huge that I couldn't even eat the onigiri I ordered alongside it. The onsen is good, and it has a sauna! In the lobby, there are sake tastings in the afternoon. The only negative thing is that the onsen is closed during the day. It only opens at 3 PM. So, if you're staying here for two nights, there might not be a ton to do during the day after you've seen the gorge and the shrine. Almost everything in the village is closed during the day, opening in the evening."

"Counter staff was very friendly and able to speak inEnglish or chinese. Check in was swift, using automated counter with staffs helping. Room was smaller than expected. Only offered 1 pillow per pax but we requested for extra and they provided. We paid $250 without bkf which ee felt its high for the room size and location. There is 1 sushi restaurant must try, Take Sushi! Rem to call for booking!"

"You get to experience a tatami room here. I'm not sure about the soundproofing; the rooms are separated by just one wooden door. If you're looking for a room like those in Japanese dramas, this is it. It's a bit old, but it feels like visiting grandma's house. However, since it's a tatami room, it's a bit cold. Maybe that's why they provided thick blankets, and with those, sleeping wasn't an issue! Oh, and the bathroom only had hand soap and shampoo! I brought my own, so I didn't ask for more, so I'm not sure if there usually isn't anything else."

"The hotel service was excellent; staff were available to help explain the facilities. The rooms were very spacious. There was an onsen (hot spring) downstairs, but it was rather old. It's very close to the city center and also close to Takachie Gorge. Almost all the surrounding restaurants were closed, probably due to the New Year holiday."

"Friendly staff and clean lodging. We booked half board which was worthwhile as the food quality was great and especially when restaurants close early within the area, saved us looking for dinner. However, there are a few time slots we need to abide to, which is fine as attractions usually are closed by late afternoon anyway. There is onsen in this accommodation, but it's not big. Enclosed onsen with no external views, and the water has some medical component added thus making the water reddish which may deter guests not accustomed to the color. The Ryokan location is convenient for walking to a few attractions (for those who enjoy walking about 15-30mins to either attraction), which include Takachiho Kagura performance (pre-booking required), Takachiho Gorge, Takachiho Amaterasu Railway - scenic train ride. Do note the train rides cannot be pre-booked, and end by 3PM in the afternoon. And Takachiho Gorge Boat Rental should be pre-booked, with time slot bookings open 7 days before."
