Rockside Cabanas Hotel

We stayed with two kids (2 and 4 years old) and we all loved it. The room was very big and it featured a terrace which we used to eat our breakfast daily. Located on the ground floor, our room had free and easy access to the big garden with its soft grass so the kids could run and enjoy it while we were relaxing on our terrace or the hammocks (also in the garden). Being very picky the only issue was the lack of a door in the toilet :) but we've managed to preserve our privacy anyway, so not a big deal. The shower was very large though, and comfy as well! The garden has a little gate with a few stairs landing directly on the beach making it very easy to go back and forth multiple times during the day (to pick up some food, get shelter in case of rain, etc.) The beach features a natural rock barrier which breaks the ocean's waves and makes a wide natural pool, swimmable and safe for adults and kids alike. Friendly green turtles are also enjoying the pool. The breakfast was delicious, with flavours spacing from savoury local to more "western" sweet food. We had a few early morning day trips and the staff prepared the breakfast to be taken with us! Speaking of the staff, they went above and beyond any expectations. They assisted us throughout our whole stay, fulfilling our requests and putting us at ease at all times. We had a chance to meet the owners of the hotel too, who were also very friendly and warm! There's an active railway right across the street, so sometimes it was possible to hear the trains passing by, but I wouldn't say it was disturbing at all. There's also a tuk-tuk driver constantly hanging in front of the hotel. He was very intrusive every time we left the hotel and that one time we decided to give him a chance we had a very unpleasant experience (he proposed a very high price compared to other drivers, and eventually left us -with 2 kids- a few km away from the agreed spot). Not really the hotel's fault, but it's worth mentioning.

The hotel is really unique. It's better one time to stay there to get sure ,you are in the right place. There is nothing to complain about. The cuisine, service,rooms, territory,location 10/10. Special thank to Mr Kokila for restaurant management.

We had a perfect time here. The view of the sea is fantastic and the garden is very well maintained. The cabana was very clean, nice size and classy decorated. The staff is super friendly and really very helpful. Both breakfast and dinner were always very delicious. There is even a large selection for vegetarians and vegans. In addition, every dish is fitted to your wishes. You can really have a very pleasant time here. Any time!

We have been returning Rockside Cabanas several times since our first visit in 2021. In our view, this unique destination offers the best value for money family destination on the Sri Lankan south coast. Lucky and Anjie, the couple who owns the hotel, are great hosts who are supported by an excellent team of friendly staff who go out of their way to make sure guests receive personalised treatment. The food and facilities are of good quality and are only surpassed by the unique location - right on Wiyaya Beach where you can swim with sea turtles in their natural environment. Only a very short ride to Unawatuna and Galle, Rockside is ideally located to explore the South Coast and environs.

went with our 1.5-year-old and it was a wonderful stay of 2 days. Great food, clean, friendly staff, beautiful views of the beach, and the turtles who visit the beach from time to time which my little one enjoyed so much. has a spacious and safe lawn for the kids to run around and enjoy The staff did help prepare some custom food for my kid whenever requested and were very supportive. Wonderful stay.

Enjoyed two nights stay with Birthday Celebrations. Super tasty food , Great Hospitality and the friendly staff. Had an awesome stay in a Luxury , Cozy Cabana with beautiful sea view. You can get a safe Sea Bath and Turtle Feeding experience in the waters , protected by the reef(kind of natural pool). Recommended 👌😍💯

Lovely room (one of the Cabanas overlooking the sea wall) beautiful location, good food, great staff. Great place to relax, provided you don't mind the sound of the waves breaking (we liked it!). Woudln't hesitate to come back.

This is one of the most amazing places I've been! We lived in one of the cabanas with one meter to the sand and ocean with big turtles swimming around you. The natural pool is protected by the reef and safe for children. The small hotel has four cabanas and a small number of beautiful rooms (we got to see two of them, very large, nice rooms). Everything is clean, food is very good (try the jumbo shrimp and chili crab) the staff is SO sweet and helpful and the two owners will make sure you have the best time. This is a very charming, cozy hotel with all you need! We are definitely coming back!

Our family of eight took a ten-day swing that covered the cultural landmarks, mountain and beach resorts, tea plantations, two safaris, and spontaneous stops along the way. A true Sri Lanka sampler, with only 5-star, beautifully sited hotels as our accomodations. Our last stay was at Rockside Cabanas, and it could not have been a better way to conclude our trip. This place is a hidden gem, with four tastefully furnished cabanas and several additional rooms. It has a full-service and excellent restaurant, which is rare for a hotel of this size, fully appointed bar, and a swimmable beach protected by an offshore reef. The beach is practically private and frequently visited by large sea turtles that interacted with us. The owners (Lucky and Angie) and staff were welcoming, accomodating, great fun, and a memorable part of our visit. We have nothing negative to say about our stay, except that it was only for two nights! We plan to return next year and stay longer.
