Castillo Tambor Resort & Restaurant

1) Overall quaint location, gardens and building 2) The Food was horrible...no flavor, imagination, and DEFINITELY nothing like you see on their website. Many things on their menu were not available. 3). We purchased a premium room at the top of the tower: a). Hottest room there as the underside of the tin roof is exposed. The Air conditioning was not powerful enough to cool the immensely hot room. Use of the CLACKY fan to aid this did not help. b). Lack of clothing storage..no dresser, or closet c). Mismatched used/old/ broken furniture was not what I expected for this type of room. College dorm rooms look better d). Pillows were uncomfy (hard/crunchy) e). Mattress was comfy f). Windows were dirty. Disappointing, since it is the one with the ocean view g). The Tv/Airconditioner area had wires hanging all over the place h). The bathroom was disgusting. EXTREME hard water stains on ALL the glass surfaces and water handles made everything look dirty. The shower floor had hard water stains near the drain. The instant hot water heater was barely hanging on the wall, with electric wires exposed and you could see through the hole to the outside. Broken toilet seat. Nothing to place toiletries on. 1 bathroom window would not open. NO HOT WATER!!!!!!

Castillo Tambor is a really nice stay. The pool and main building are great. The rooms are unique and interesting. We stayed in the lower building and our room was fine. Very plain and simple compared to the main building. There is no sound proofing between room 8 and 9. We could hear everything the neighbours said and did and assume they could do the same with us. You need a car to go anywhere. Breakfast was included and was a traditional Tico meal which got us going in the morning. Overall a nice place to stay.

Great place to stay we had no issues. Good food and a lot to do in the area. A little hidden gem :)

Great staff, beautiful architecture,but 0 view from our hotel room and we booked a garden view room, to get there you need a good car is a dirt road

We stayed here & are still here! The staff are absolutely brilliant & can’t do enough for us. Our chef Randall is superb & if you want fresh food cooked beautifully then come to their Cactus restaurant & be spoilt! If you are looking for peace & quiet in a jungle setting, this couldn’t be better. Thank you Carolina for making sure that all the things we wanted to do, were made possible with your help! Our stay has been unforgettable.

Beautiful room at the top of the stone tower with a stunning view of the ocean. We stayed when there were few other guests and enjoyed the quiet a**osphere. The pool was super clean and a lovely break from the warm temps. Staff was beyond friendly and helpful. They facilitated a trustworthy taxi driver and boat tours. A tasty breakfast was included and was true Costa Rican fare. This location does not have a sandy beach within walking distance, but the Tambor beach was only a few minutes drive. Under new ownership now with a great Canadian couple taking over. Lots of renovations.

I had an amazing experience at this hotel. Check in was quick and the manager helped us with directions to rent an ATV. The owner of the hotel was so friendly and helpful and he gave us a ride to pick up the ATV!!! We felt very welcomed!!. If you want a place to get away to enjoy peaceful and comfortable stay, this is a good place to be. From this hotel, we could go to Montezuma beach, Tambor beach, Malpais town and Santa Teresa beach. Food was excellent and customer service was great!!!! I can’t wait to come back!
