We arrived in the early afternoon, the arrival experiences was normal like the last 2 times at St Regis and Ritz Carlton. Given JW is 1 of the top 3 at Marriott, I was expecting similar. Then it all go down hill from there. Our butler was friendly, but doesn't know how to be a butler, no idea how to plan the trip for us, and kind of being a quiet Uber driver on my WhatsApp. As soon as we walk into the over water villa, I point out the huge crack on the slider door glass, and then more crack on the bath room window. And I asked if we can be moved to a different room ... "we are 100% occupied now, and won't be able to move you. And we noticed the crack, just not able to repair it yet." Then we had the worst teppanyaki dinner of my life. First of all, the chef made everything in front of me, but he didn't serve it as he cooks, it's like I ordered a lot of food from the kitchen and came out on 1 plate. It was cold and over cooked. Again... oh sorry, I didn't expect you wanting us to serve individually. :-o isn't that what teppanyaki is? And then a horrifying thing happened, something in the food caused hives all over my wife, we had to visit the clinic at midnight, and all they tell us was we serve the same food to other guest and no one had any reaction. No apologies, no compensations, no extra care about what they serve us the next morning... life goes on like nothing happened. Now we are afraid of what we order, and as we all know, checking out of an island is not an easy thing. And we had the reservation for 10 nights, last minute plan change on a peak season is not. But I pretty much spend the 2nd day making calls and coordinating with other resort. Finally, we were able to get a seaplane on the 3rd day and fly out to Male and Four Seasons Kuda Huraa staff meet and greet us right there and took us to paradise. Ok... and before that happens, JW basically throw a bomb on us before we have to get on the seaplane by saying they won't be refunding the other 8 nights for early check out. Well... it's either stay and argue about it and miss the seaplane, or waste another 8 nights without knowing what's for dinner, or get out and deal with it later. The choice is obvious, and now, I am still having back and forth email and calls with Marriott, because JW Marriott Maldives still responded with the same message. No one else got sick and we are the best resort you can find. As a life time titanium member, I have a lot of faith in Marriott, but the corporate really need to down grade this hotel and not giving it a JW Marriott title to protect the brand. It's Marriott at most, but I really think it's a Courtyard level. Even the Residence Inn in Maui is a better place than this.
